Agree to disagree?
If they were making $40+ an hour I would surely have higher expectations. They are lucky to make $40k a year.

I surely wouldn’t invest my non-Apple time looking up stuff to better serve a near trillion dollar company for a few bucks and discounts.

I challenge you to work in a store, on top of your regular job, as most there are part timers, which most are, with a full another job and/or balancing family.

All of the people I know are pretty sharp when it comes to the products they deal with everyday. Nearly all of them don’t care whatelese is out there.

All I am saying is cut them some slack.
The Apple education site is a not a user friendly site unless you are registered.
Then it’s ok but in general the like device they carry calculates the discount.

Tip: align your business with the business team at the Apple store. You may be able to work with that person directly and obtain a crayola. If you get a letter from the schools your kids attend it will help.

If she was a lot older I'd just buy her a 13" MacBook Pro which is a lot better for getting work done. I'm not sold about the iPad being the future of education.

I'm confident wherever education is in a 'lot' of years, it won't resemble today. My guess is it will resemble a tablet more than a laptop though.

I like the pods the Vulcans used in Star Trek (2009), lol.

well back to your original point, which seemed to be you didn't want your child to get used to a pad when the future of education might be a laptop... when the vulcans come out of the pod, they use a pad :)

Well, the iPad has flopped around for a while in education. I feel like a superior tablet might one day take it's place. Apple has been working towards improving the iPad and new professional level apps are starting to help. The iPad actually came out towards the end of the time I was in college and I bought one and used it a lot. But I wouldn't have been able to finish college without a MacBook Pro. And even today I can't work nearly as fast on my iPad as on my Mac, even though I think my iPad Pro benchmarks about the same as my personal MBP which is a 2012. It's macOS and the mouse. All the windows with few restrictions. It's just easier to get crap done. I can't even remember my original quote because it was a long time ago and I'm too lazy to go look it up now so hopefully I'm not repeating myself.
