Until the thief that breaks into your house and steals your cloud server and you have no video of it. I would give up a little privacy for on off-site solution.

One should never buy something on the hopes that they will release what they say they will. Only give companies money when they are actually selling what they promised to. This

Also, don't hold your breath waiting.

That depends on where one lives ;)

Just appeared for me in the UK.

Be interesting to hear how you get on. I imagine you lose the ability to set ‘Motion Zones’ once you enable HomeKit Secure Video? Any updates appreciated.

No explicit motion zones, but I guess apple have done some kind of machine learning to determine what counts as activity. It will be interesting to see how it fairs.

Secure, offsite storage is it’s own feature. Theft from, damage to, or destruct of my house could potentially reduce the viability of that home based solution you mention.
True, but that could happen any where

Some more images attached taken from Federico Viticci’s Twitter @viticci.

You definitely get some detection features for free that you’d normally have to pay a subscription for. But not seeing any way to set ‘Motion Zones’.

OK, now I’ve set up the streaming & RECORDING, the app is exposing the full interface. Scrubbing around clips is much smoother and easier than with the circle app.

The clips have little icons indicating what has been detected (ie a car). You can then select it and tap the share icon which very quickly brings up the share sheet. It is actually pretty neat.

Ok so I have it setup and played with it. Playback plays audio but no video for me- downloading recordings is quick and goes right to camera roll and looks great. Playback videos show wrong day and time. Motion notifications do not work and I have them all enabled.

works great but I have the option for record only for animals, people, and cars and to alert only on recordings but I'm getting blown up with push alerts from any movement through the windows. I'll have to do some digging.

This is neat, it’s a one way change apparently. Says you need to contact support to switch it back over to work with the Logi app.

Quite a few new useful features that come with the update. You can filter by person/animal/vehicle/general motion detection (though I wish I could record animals but not send motion notifications for them, I like to keep tabs on my cats but don’t need to know every time they walk by the camera). The biggest one is being able to control what happens when you’re home (Turn off, allow notifications only, allow streaming but not recording, and allow recording). You can also control the lights on the camera from Home. It also gives you handy little control tiles for the room that the camera is in as part of the motion notifications.

Starting the stream and getting snapshots is also MUCH MUCH faster than before. Recordings are identified and tagged practically instantly, and they load instantly too.

Over all it’s fantastic, like getting a new camera with all new features for free!

Could not disagree with you more. The chance that your home and Apple'd iCloud are broken into in the same event is 0.0000000001%. If a scenario like that ever occurred, you'd have bigger issues at hand.

On the other hand, it's very reasonable for someone to break into my home and destroy the evidence that they were there by destroying a NAS.

Having an offsite copy of your data is data protection 101.

Amazing it works great how would we update firmware of the camera or changes to this device home app doesn’t get updates

You still can't watch the camera on multiple devices at once, which I find odd. It actually seems to bug out the camera for a bit when you try.

I disagree because you can backup to your own personal storage device and put your own personal storage device where ever you want. A personal storage device that is not online has a lower chance of being hacked, stolen or broken into unless someone lives in a high crime city.

I’m extremely shocked that a company followed through and so quick. They will loose a lot of revenue from their cloud storage solution from people switching.

Am I understanding this correctly? So, now that the Logitech Circle 2 works with HomeKit Secure Video, does this mean 10 days of footage are stored for free? Or does this mean that 24 hours are stored for free because that was the standard for Logitech Circle 2 before the switch, and other manufacturers may store up to 10 days?

if you switch to HomeKit secure video you disable all function of the Logitech app including the cloud storage. You now store it in iCloud if you have one of the paid tiers. Video storage doesn’t count against your plan.

Wonder when I’ll see the update....

you need to install the beta firmware. To do that you have to have the updated up. Mine didn’t show up but I searched the Logitech app on the store and it let me update then you go into smart-home integration >HomeKit.

Yes, thanks I had to manual search for the app to see the update as well. It installed on all my cameras without a hitch. One thing I did notice is that you can no longer set the field of view. This is really important for any cameras you may have mounted with the Circle 2 Window Mount. It's not a huge deal but gives you more a fish eye sort of perspective.

Also, it may be my imagination but it seems the cameras night vision ability has improved. Which has nothing to do with the HomeKit but still nice to see.

So let's say I currently don't have one of the paid tiers and just use the 24 hour free plan. If I update the firmware and switch over to HomeKit Secure Video, do I just get 24 hours of footage? Or 10 days?

Once we switch over to HomeKit secured storage and remove our cameras from the Circle app, how do we get future firmware updates? Beyond beta firmware?

I awesome it will be like the insignia garage door openers that only work with HomeKit. They can just push a new firmware over WiFi automatically. I assume the device talks with their servers for that purpose. They can also manually push a firmware to the device.

Anyone know about camera limits for sharing data with family plan? Does each person get cameras or only the primary. Is 5 for each or everyone on 2TB plan?

nvmd
“The Apple ID that you use for the Home app allows up to five total recording-enabled cameras across as many homes as you own. Members of a Family Sharing iCloud storage plan share this limit with everyone else on the storage plan. To record with more than five cameras, you need to use another Apple ID with another iCloud storage plan.”

Some other impressions so far....

The firmware update issue...how will we update?

Can't set the resolution.

Can't set the sensitivity of the microphone.
- Can't turn it off on a per camera basis either.

The night vision, while better overall(I think, may be just my imagination), is way too sensitive. Changes in white on tv was setting it off for our living room camera; not how it was before.

Not optimized for the window mount option.

Good news is these are all things that A) are easy to live with for now and B) can be fixed in the future.
