I'd clone it now. Unless you think it's an antique of the future and you want to sell it shrink wrapped, there's no advantage to not opening it.Bought my backup. Next decision: Clone-program it now, or keep it sealed 'til I need it?
I’ve tried this remote twice now. It’s no harmony. The screen and how they use it is superb but it doesn’t have any true activity type replacement and the lack of an IR hub like the harmony made it difficult for me control my set up.Just found this remote... Not sure how "advanced" it is.

No it doesn’t anymoreGiven their software still depends on the long-defunct Silverlight Player, I'd get it set up now before it just ends up a paperweight.
Harmony software was on my Widows laptop, had all my devices ready to go, simple sync and I was done. If you don't have the software from the original setup of your existing remote, then will have to down load it and copy settings from original.I'd clone it now. Unless you think it's an antique of the future and you want to sell it shrink wrapped, there's no advantage to not opening it.
You want it ready to go if your other remote fails, especially as there's a chance Logitech will drop support such that their server no longer exists, or it does but only to modify existing remotes.
$350, no way, I paid $60 for a refurbished 665, works fine. I will take my 700 apart and clean contacts, if that doesn't work, not a problem. (There are U-Tube videos showing how to take it apart)Just found this remote... Not sure how "advanced" it is.

Since when? Last year when I reprogrammed my 650, it had to install the Silverlight Player. On Windows 10.No it doesn’t anymore

You honestly think that a multi-billion dollar company buys into hype?I think the real reason is because they bought into the hype about 'Ir TVs/entertainment devices are dying and being replaced with wifi or bluetooth' while I have never seen a brand new TV that doesn't have Ir at the very least. People said Ir was dying when the Galaxy S4 was new, criticising it having an Ir blaster in 2013.
There are still folks who believe tablets can replace laptops, too. That will never happen, either.
I don’t know the date of the article but second paragraph where it says “important note”Since when? Last year when I reprogrammed my 650, it had to install the Silverlight Player. On Windows 10.
Loved (and used to death) my Harmony One. Now have a 950 with a hub and it is a close second. But I really liked the dedicated number buttons.I really like my Harmony One. I've customized some of the buttons and it works very well for all my devices. Mine has gotten considerable use and is showing its age. I would have a hard time without it so I bought a near-new one off of eBay.
On MacOS the Harmony One uses the MyHarmony app, which is unfortunately 32-bit only. To get it to work on my MBP running Big Sur I used a Sierra virtual machine I had set up in Parallels.
The new remote was recognized, no problem. However it wouldn't recognize my login in order to copy the old remote's settings into the new one. So I just synced the new one using the old one's configuration. Works fine.
Just an FYI...some of the original rechargeable batteries in the old Harmony remotes have been known to swell. My old remote's battery had done that and I had to take the remote apart to get the battery out. Something to check on especially if you buy a used one.
I've been into a local distributer and it's pretty impressive kit, it is kind of expensive, though I think it offers more than the Harmony setup and looks super impressive, I think I'm going to run with this at some point. That's a pretty expensive fix. The hardware is $115 and the app is $31
If the above are smart, they will change that policy. I used to use URC and liked the remote a lot, but the need to rely on installers every time I needed a change was absolutely infuriating, and extremely expensive. Most of the installers also didn't understand my system and approach as well as I did, so my Harmony remotes have worked better for me than URC remotes programmed by installers.
If any of the above want Harmony's market, they have to give consumers the tools to program their remotes.
Do it now.... In few months, years you don't know if your software will be up un running yet... I talk about (recent) experience.... the logitech software doesn't worg with the new Apple silicon and i will was in trouble if a don't have my old iMac yetBought my backup. Next decision: Clone-program it now, or keep it sealed 'til I need it?View attachment 1759522

Logitech announced that they "will continue to support existing products as long as customers are using them". What that means exactly, no one knows, but "won't likely stay up for much longer" doesn't seem the case. The only concern I'd see for those who continue using the remotes is that those hubs (Harmony Ultimate One) depend on an internet connection to some server which won't likely stay up for much longer.
I have not seen any updates to their software in a while... BUT I do continually see two issues on the den entertainment system which uses the HUB and a Harmony 950.Logitech announced that they "will continue to support existing products as long as customers are using them". Hummm how they knows we uses the remote... I use the application to configure my remote once at 6 or 7 years... in the meantime the remote dont use internet to control my devices... i hope.Logitech announced that they "will continue to support existing products as long as customers are using them".
