Can you take it out of the case as easily as the Magic Keyboard? Can you use it on your lap as easily? Can you carry it with one hand (when it's open) while walking around the house/office?

My opinion from watching reviews of the 10.5 version is No to all three of those questions. Therefore my assumption is, not nearly as good of a design. But might be good for some people's needs and pricing is more attractive for many.

The magic keyboard is premium and expensive for sure, but it has been my favorite Apple device/accessory since the Airpods.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't detach like the 10.5 because of the different connectors. Could be wrong though. I don't know why you'd carry it while it's open to begin with.

Edit: Nope it doesn't detach.

It looks good, but I want to hold one and touch it before I buy.

I currently have the smart folio keyboard which is nice, but lacks the back-lighting and track-pad of this keyboard. If this one is close to the weight and bulk of the smart folio keyboard I might upgrade.

I tried the magic keyboard for about 5 minutes and hated the weight, lack of being a folio cover in my bag, and suspending the iPad in air. Might be good to park at a desk in your office, but definitely not something you want to carry around. I sent it back.

Interesting, but too much weight (650g) for a case with keyboard. I’m fine using my Smart Keyboard Folio even if I have to use an external mouse or trackpad. The thinness of Apple’s Smart Keyboard Folio is key for my use, as well as the ease to detach the iPad and use it without the keyboard.

The lack of backlit keys is a big issues for me on my Smart Keyboard Folio.

That is 1/3 the cost of a base 12.9 ipad, or basically the same cost as an iPhone SE. It shows how overpriced the keyboard is. The parts for a phone cost a heck of a lot more than the keyboard materials.

iPhone SE has different margins that impact the price, so it’s not a fair comparison. Plus, Apple calculates “long term value” of customers that purchase an iPhone that includes services revenue like iCloud/iTunes/etc. That type of additional revenue can’t be associated with an accessory like a keyboard. As such, accessories prices/margins will always need to be higher than an iPhone-like device.

Having tried the Combo Touch, this is a great addition, a solid choice, and a nice price. But I'll still prefer my 12.9 Magic Keyboard because I can't abide a kickstand and have no need for the multiple positions.

IMO this is the keyboard Apple should've made.. but then it would cost twice as much, so everything's fine :D
While Apple had the right idea they forgot the weight factor. Why would anybody carry around a 21/2 pound iPad which is more than a MacBook Air

Thank you Logitech! It’s even more functional than the Magic Keyboard!

I like it! Nice work Logitech. If the keyboard can bend behind for "tablet mode" it's damn near perfect. (But I can't tell because the Logitech link in the story is dead :) )

The Magic Keyboard is more of a dock. This looks portable.
This link worked for me and it says it has 4 viewing modes, including a “reader” mode, which is your “tablet” mode

Apple simply does not want to go the Surface way. Good thing this keyboard is available for the pro model now.

Depends where you work. This is similar to their earlier folio cases. You need depth on whatever you are typing on.

Was not great on a plane, on your lap like sitting on couch or bed and trying to type on your lap.

In these scenarios the magic keyboard, even Smart Keyboard are better.

I like the old Logitech that they had for the air2 and 9.7” pro. Once they went to the kick stand, wad not as useful in many situations.

I'm sooooo getting this. I looked with envy at the iPad Air's version of this keyboard as it was available ever since the spring event and the magic keyboard for iPP was just outrageously overpriced. Looking forward to it, hope Logitech will be fair with the European pricing!

I had this for my iPad Air 3 and loved it. I will miss charging through the keyboard charging port though.

Such Apple-speak. "Long term value." Is that like a "small percent of customers" (like the butterfly keyboard) they always use? Marketing jargon is all it is.

It's grossly overpriced bottom line. Other manufacturers can make these types of products for 50-66% of the price jsut fine and make money. I dont care about Apple's profits, nor do most customers buying the products. They also arent selling 50 million of these like phones where inflating the price will make a dent if they lowered the price $100 even to $199/$250 (11/12.9 size) from $299/350.

Still waiting for the Combo Touch to show up in Australia, so I imagine we won’t be seeing this one u til next year...

This almost makes me want to sell the magic keyboard.
I semi-thought of that except 1) my previous Logitech just died, so I’m not sold on the durability 2) you need to put the leg on a surface to have it stand up. That’s less than ideal in many of the places i use an iPad, including my lap, and, back in The Before, on a plane.

And also bluetooth will lag more than Magic Trackpad

This isn't Bluetooth.

It’s a shame the keyboard can’t be removed like the iPad Air/Pro 10.5” and iPad 7 cases can, because of Apple’s silly placement of the smart connector on the new iPad Pros. I’ll never understand the placement on the back vs the side. All of apple’s implementations could easily utilize the side.

IMO it’s ugly, doesn’t seem like it will be comfortable used on my lap, and it seems taking the device out won’t be so easy. MK wins for me.

The side of the iPad does not come in contact with the MK, so they needed it in the back. I kinda prefer the way they did it.

LTV is a financial calculation that is used to determine profits/loss for promotional or other operational costs when compared to customer acquisition costs. It’s not ”marketing speak”, it’s similar to ROI and is literally used to determine what products get funded and developed.

Logitech today announced the launch of the Logitech Folio Touch, a new keyboard case with trackpad designed for the 11-inch iPad Pro models released in 2018 and 2020.

logitechfoliotouch.jpg

The Logitech Folio Touch is Logitech's first keyboard with trackpad designed for the iPad Pro and it serves as an alternative to Apple's own Magic Keyboard. Logitech previously released the Combo Touch, a keyboard with trackpad that works with the 7th-generation iPad, the iPad Air, and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Similar in design to the Combo Touch, the Folio Touch features a case that wraps around the iPad along with a laptop-like keyboard with a built-in trackpad that works with the iPad Pro's trackpad support. There's also an adjustable kickstand to allow for greater positioning flexibility, an Apple Pencil holder, and four use modes that include typing, viewing, sketching, and reading.

The keyboard is powered by the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro so it doesn't need to be charged and doesn't need to connect over Bluetooth. When not needed for typing, the keyboard can be folded back behind the iPad Pro, a feature not available with Apple's own Magic Keyboard.

Logitech's Folio Touch will be available starting in July 2020 for $160 from the Logitech website or from Apple's online store.

I wanted to get this keyboard for my 10.5, but knew that I would want to upgrade to the 11 in the next few months or 1 year...so I didn’t want to spend more money on something I’ll be getting rid of. This closes the deal, I’ll be upgrading to the 11.

Huge fan of Logitech with their Bluetooth keyboards in the past and the quality is excellent. I don’t think it surpasses Apple, but it’s definitely a close ‘runner-up’, especially given their price points are competitive for what you’re receiving.

This one should much more responsive. No Bluetooth, uses the connectors on the iPad Pro, No BT delays.
