It's still much better than previous iPads is the point. For working on a small screen it works very well.

Sure. It may be helpful sometimes. Still, there are much better options out there - like real monitors or more suitable laptops.

Do yourself a favor and ditch norton... Worst av ever. If you want the best look to Eset NOD32. FYI my job is maintaining some 1000+ computers.

Sorry for the O/T - and yes, logmein is awesome :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have been using Norton for years and it has served me very, very well. I am extremely happy with it. My PC runs very well with it. :D

You can watch videos from LMI Ignition if you have LMI Pro installed. You also get sound. This however is only for Windows. Specifically, it works better via Windows XP but I'm hoping the Mac version comes soon.

I can't get Splashtop to use the iPad 3 native resolution on my 13" MBP.

Is it because my computer display doesn't go up past 1280x800?

i can't get splashtop to work at a higher resolution either. maybe they need to update their app

wow this looks VERY cool. I think i need to check out logmein. I was no aware of it and it looks like i might never need to leave my bed in the mornings now :)

I have LogMeIn Ingition ever since it had the price drop to $19.99. But now it goes for $99.99.

I am surprised it has Retina support even though it was never updated.

Although I can play videos though the session is is choppy and the sound is even worse because it is trying to do both at the same time. I can get relatively good sound and video if I shrink the video a lot but what is the point.

As for using the computer while playing music on the computer works rather well if you internet connection allows it.

With my bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth headphones it is almost like I am at a computer using it. No more stretching the screen to see text. My screen acts as a giant touch pad.

My settings are

Color Quality = HD quality
Resolution = 1920x1200
Network Speed = Auto
Scroll Mode = Mouse moves
Sound Quality = Medium

Logmein needs better support for the Mac. They have Ignition for Windows but none for the Mac despite the fact that people have been asking for it for more than a year. Also, the Pro version has full HD video with sound but only with Windows. Using Logmein with the iPad actually gives better results than on a Mac because of their poor Mac support.

Splashtop

Splash top needs an update, before it will be able to be used the iPad 3's native resolution. Screen size is located in the advanced settings for the computer you are connecting to. You can either connect your MacBook to a larger screen or change the native resolution to its maximum.

You can pick up RealVNC for 7 GBP in the AppStore.

Works like a treat with the iPad's Retina display. It may not be as configurable as LogMeIn, but for the price it does everything I need to remotely manage my Macs.

It's a universal app, too.

I use splashtop remote desktop because rather than seeing a full screen of your remote computers native resolution, it instead reduces the remote screen resolution to a more legible one which makes it much more usable since you don't have to zoom or squint to see what you're doing.

I guess they were smart enough to have the app dynamically adjust the resolution to fit the device when they made it a universal app. This makes me so ridiculously happy. Of the things I use my iPad for, LMI is honestly in the top three. :D

That is indeed awesome. One thing I hated about these apps was the zooming.

It's very useful. I've used LogMeIn for years and the Free version at that. Back before they supported all the extras for Mac. I paid $30 for the App back in the day when they first released it.
How does it compare to SplashTop? Can it do 30 FPS? Run games in full screen? That's what I'm wanting.

This is quite amazing. I can now display my entire desktop and have it readable on my iPad from my 27" iMac. The quality on the screen is much better than the actual screenshot. No more zooming in and out all the time.

I was wondering about this but haven't had time to test just been slammed at my job and starting my own business. Thanks for posting on this, that is AWESOME!:)

LMI also supports tunneling through VPN and multiple machines at a glance. I use it a lot on server/media units so it really increases efficiency because you don't have to enter in all the details all the time to log in. After initial setup, you just tap and you have access to all files on all computers, VNC functionality, and also management access. I wish they made something this stupid easy for SSH so I could just log into the backend without credentials or the need to have VNC control of the screen.

Sorry, off topic, but when I first looked quickly at the thread title I read it as "LoMein and the new iPad." Thought it had something to do with Chinese food. I'm on a diet so I have food on my mind.

Logmein just updated for the Mac to include sound for pro subscriptions (or for those who got ignition app). Haven't played with it much, but thought I would pass that along.

I have the ignition app and loving teh HD mode, a lot smoother and with audio(about time!)

Good Update IMO and about time.

That is indeed awesome. One thing I hated about these apps was the zooming.

Unless the physical screen on your computer is as small as your iPad you have to zoom it in to get the text to appear the same size as on the computer. (given that you're using the same screen res on the computer that you'd be using if you were sitting in front of it) I suppose if you have really good eyes and can read text that's only a mm high without lots of squinting and eyestrain you don't need to zoom. My eyes ain't that good.

Does that mean the sound from a Windows computer or a mac playing through the iPad app or Mac browser-based client?
