Bumpers shouldn't be absolutely necessary even for people who can experience signal loss by touching the left spot, as I can do with mine (depending on where I am). It took me all of 30 seconds to find a new grip that avoids touching that spot, and I probably never would have thought about it again if not for the internet nearly imploding over the issue.

You can argue over whether it should be necessary to hold the phone even slightly different than one is used to in order to be sure it works, but in reality it takes such little effort to avoid the issue that I'm pretty sure any adult with standard functioning hands should be able to do so until their bumper arrives.

Why do you think no other manufacturer places the antenna on the outside where it has to be touched to use the phone. There is a reason 99.99% of all cellular phones have the antenna inside now.

Same could be said about the iMac and many other Apple products. 99.99% of all manufacturers (at least used to) do not cram so much stuff into 1.25" thick enclosure leading to potential overheating. Apple is about innovation and will eventually be able to use the outside antenna to its advantage (better reception overall) while finding a way to shield it from touching to better help those in poor reception area.

Same here for my Griffin Reveal...lol

My PixelSkin HD is shipping Oct. 5th as well - and that is simply absurd. Apparently I'm in the 0.55% (BS) minority, but I definitely have signal issues when using my iPhone 4 without a case.

Being that this is meant to fix a problem, there's no way it should take 2-3 months to get it. Hopefully the shipping estimates are bogus, otherwise Apple screwed up, yet again.

I can see you are very passionate about this but sorry you are in the minority despite what you may believe.

Does your phone work on magic too? Steve told me it did. I BELIEVE him:)
I love my PHONE no one else has issues:D I hate when Apple gets bad PR. I mean .55% of people had the nerve to question Steven. I mean out of all the lazy Americans out there who don't even plug their phone into the computer only .55% had the audacity to call a computer company to try to explain technical issues to them.:D Sound like a bunch of fuss over nothing. I mean all Steve had to do was have a bunch of mean bullies try to tarnish his super hip, cool reputation. Good thing he held a small media event to address a vocal minority (that aired on every major channel while Apple's stock was falling). I mean it couldn't have effected more than say 5 people come on Steve said as much. That's why he publicly pointed out flaws in his product so 5 people could understand the issue not the vast majority of people online and in real life who could replicate the issue. Oh well some people never learn. IF you don't want it don't buy it, or return it. I mean if your phone doesn't work you're unworthy of it. You just don't have the magic. Some people got it but others don't. Don't listen to yellow journalism publications like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Consumer Reports, and The Washington Posts. They're just mad their free iphones didn't come with these nifty bumpers. I mean how could you not want a piece of plastic border that offers no protection to yhe front or back of the phone. Some people...:apple:

OP has every right to complain, the case is free but necessary. That's what makes the difference. It's a slap in the face to offer a workaround fix for a reception problem and then make 3 million people wait for 3 months to get it.

This particular case is not necessary. It is perhaps the most popular so it's not as readily available. If you don't want to wait, order a different free case. Or, better yet, return that iPhone 4 and get something else.

I don't mind the wait and buying cases in the interim. Gives me more options. I hate wearing the same case for a year.

Pixel HD is the only one I like, besides the GeoMetric. But 2 Speck cases seems to defeat the purpose to me. Let's hope tech21 bumpers are "too" expensive!

Also best buy needs to update their freaking inventory already. I'm sick of my choice of iFrogz, iFrogz, iFrogz, and... Griffin.

In other news, I just got my bumper delivered today!! I ordered it within an hour of the app being offered in the store. Delivery date from Apple said August 27, DHL date said today. USPS delivered it with my mail.

Garbage. Now because of Apple most of these case companies will get to do some double dipping cause no way in hell am I leaving it uncovered for 2+ months. It's already shown to be more fragile as well. I'm sure most people like myself will go and buy a case right now while waiting for our "free" case.

Um, I'm sitting in my apartment right now with 5 bars. If I turn my phone off of the lockscreen (so it stays on) and I hold the bottom of the phone tightly I can watch them drop. It's not INSTANT - it takes about 15 seconds for the first one to fall off, but then...sure enough one by one they all do until it says SEARCHING...

Take it back for a refund.

Apple admitted no reception defect and is giving away the cases only to temper the 0.55% or so. It's not absolutely necessary for many people whose iPhone 4s work just fine without a case.

That 0.55% is the percentage that called in or logged at a store. Apple knows there's more than 0.55%. I know I didn't call in b/c Apple (via Steve's emails, etc) made it clear it was pointless to call in for any resolution. Talking to the people at the store (without giving any information they can track with) also showed it was pointless. I'm not saying the true % is some huge number, but it is higher than 0.55%, that's a given.

I never drop calls at work (AT&T cell tower on the roof), but I do drop them at home. On iOS 4.0 I was always 5 bars at home, with 4.0.1, I'm not 3-4. Hold the phone in my left hand, 10 seconds later "Call Failed."

Also, we all know the percentage of people on the forums with issues is not representative of the population.
