120 refresh rate OLED panel would have had an even higher premium.

Now the increase in the accessories is ridiculous. Seriously they didn’t add much to them. Actually they added zero tech to them. They just put some AirPod tech in the pencil, that’s it. The keyboard has a little more material, but they stopped making the sleeve that no one had interest in. So I guess we’re paying for that.

I might try out the Galaxy Tab S4. Samsung's OLEDs are really nice. Comes with a pen... Hmm.

I was going to grab one of these iPads but a starting price of $799 and having to buy a new pencil is a turnoff.

maybe next fall but my guess is they skip OLED all together next year and in 2020 go for microled.
From what I can tell, OLED will still be too expensive in 12-18 months. mLED is still a ways off and not even shipping in any phones. So the iPad will probably be LCD for at least one, and possibly two more generations of they’re on an 18 month cycle now, or three generations if yearly.

I think OLED would only increase the price, and I’m not sure Apple even has the necessary OLED manufacturers for the two sizes they would require for 11 inch and 12.9 inch iPad.

That said, others might appreciate OLED, but I’m thinking average consumer really see’s face ID, and of course the reduced bezels with the elimination of the home button.

Wait to see an LED screen? Been looking at iPad LED screens for years..
its an LCD screen. the led's are just the backlight.
Are you okay with a 300$ premium for an oled model?
64 gig 11" iPad Pro starting at 1100$...

tbh if it was justified and a reasonable improvement, i would be ok with it
but would the rest of the world be? Im sure apple thought about it cost wise and realize people will be spending 700$ more than 1100 starting price. Im sure they know how to price these things so more people buy them...

Well samsungs new tv's are almost performing as well as the oleds - if apple is in the same class, i think you'll be fine with with apple's super optimized lcd screens.

There is still a huge jump in image quality compared from any lcd to oled especially in tv's. The only tvs that can compete are super expensive full array tv's. The backlight in phones and iPads wont ever get full array style backlights its too thick.

Havent the Lumia phones had OLEDs for years? they cost less than iPhones..

Do they curve the display under to create that edge look with no chin? Apples oleds cost a lot to make and to replace. 300$ to replace an X and 320$ for an xmax. I cant see a screen for an iPad costing under 500$ if it ever broke.
You think thats worth it?

It has to be the price holding them back. Obviously they can do it. However, I’m sure they decided way back when to focus on other improvements like adding Face ID, less bezel, more computing power etc.

Can’t have it all at once.
