With Beta 3 all was fine, and my Mac Studio booted in seconds. After typing in the password it would zip almost straight to the desktop and all was working fine.

I updated to Beta 4, and now I type in my password, and it takes a good 80 seconds to get to the desktop. The process stops at around 60%, 10 seconds in. Then it sits there for 70 seconds and then gets into the desktop and all is fine.

"Obviously" a login item is slowing it all down, and it wasn't before.

How do I troubleshoot this? I only have a few programs to open at Login, but I have a bunch of background items. They are all enabled right now, and I guess I can disable and test by trial and error, but is there a better way?

OK - not a Login item issue. I disabled all the Login Items, including all the background ones, and the issue is still present;

I type in my password, and the boot continues for 10 seconds. Then it sits there for 70 seconds, at around 60%, and then it zips into the desktop, and all is up and running in 80 seconds.

I tried creating a new Account on the Mac Studio, but that account had the long boot issue as well.

I reckon there is one of my installed applications making this issue, and I need to identify it. Is there a way to track a boot sequence and get all the details, to see what is holding up boot for over a minute?

I'm seeing the exact same thing. But I can't answer your question, sorry. I did submit a feedback report, make sure you do also.

I did not think I was having this problem, but to be sure I rebooted. I think my Studio Ultra is booting even faster than it was before. Sorry, I have no idea other than a clean install which is a ridiculous measure to take, I am aware. This is why I put Ventura on a separate partition.

I did submit a feedback report, and I hope this is fixed in the next beta. It is beta related for sure, but it could be that the fix is needed by Apple, or a 3rd party that needs to update a file or two… As I said, once all is up, it works, and I only boot once a day, so it is not a showstopper. Also, I just did a complete reinstall of all my apps etc. when I got my Mac Studio just 6 weeks ago…

@Martyimac - it would be interesting to see if we have some hardware and/or software in common...

Starting with hardware;

Mac Studio M1 Max 10c/32c/16c/64GB/2TB
- Echo Express PCIe box w. 1TB Accelsior/4x500GB NVMe/10GbE - connected via TB
- 2 x LG 32UL950-W TB Monitors - connected via TB and daisy-chained
- QNAP NAS - connencted via TB
- CalDigit Elements Hub - connected via TB
- Lexar Workflow Hub - connected via CalDigit TB
- 2 x Lacie SSDs - connected via CalDigit TB
- Logitech Brio Webcam - connected via CalDigit USB
- iPhones and iPads - connected via USB
- Canon printer - connected via LAN

In terms of software packages (all is up-to-date, according to MacUpdater);

macOS Ventura, Beta 4
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Apples Professional Applications Bundle
- Xcode Beta
- Nikon's Software Bundle
- Microsoft Office
- MetroExodus
- Myst
- Steam
- Origin
- Parallels with Windows 11 ARM
- BitDefender

And then software that interacts with hardware;

- Canon IJ Scan and Network
- LG Dual Monitor, Calibration Studio, OnScreen Control
- QNAP Qfinder Pro
- Logitech G Hub, LogiTune, OBS
- SwitchResX

And then a bunch of smaller utilities that run in the menu bar;

- Carbon Copy Cloner
- Parallels Toolbox
- Divvy
- TeamViewer
- Grammarly
- Monitor Control
- LogiTune

I already tried disabling all the login items, including the background ones - it didn't make a difference.

Let me know if there is any overlap?

BTW - when booting in Safe Mode, the issue is NOT there. It is a slow boot for sure, but it is actually faster than when I boot normally. Hence, I am sure the issue is realted to a login item, or an accessory.

That is a very good point - I also have these errors when checking First Aid on my Data drive...

OK - that sent me on a wild goose chase... The errors have cleared in First Aid, and the long boot time is still present.

No overlap anywhere.

If it's on, try turning Bluetooth off and rebooting. I wonder if it's connecting, or trying to connect, to something as it boots.

I rarely use bluetooth on either my laptop or phone, but each beta install turns it on.

Good point, but the issue is not present in Safe Boot, and BT must be on for trackpad and keyboard.

I am also seeing a longer boot time since Beta 4...

I booted with CMD V and I am getting a lot of:

tx_flush and tx_leave entries for disk1 in the boot sequence... never seen these before....

Anyone else ?

Sorry, I can’t check Verbose - it doesn’t work the same way on Apple Silicon…

Had the same issue so I rolled back to Monterey for now. Couldn't isolate where the issue was, it was pretty much the same behaviour for me, safe boot or normal. A pity because post boot it was more or less stable in most actions. But for now, back to Monterey which feels super fast and fluid to me now

Installed Beta 5 this morning, and still, I have a 70-second delay on my boot sequence. Everything is working, but something f.... with my boot...

Same huge delay here. ugh wish we could see verbose mode on Mac Studios to see what exactly is it doing..

So we are at least a few people in here with this issue. There must be some sort of commonality between our setups.

I have an exhaustive list of hardware and software listed above. Does any of this resonate with you? Perhaps someone else can add their setup as well?

very hard to diagnose without an absolute clean install and plugging peripherals and whatever software they use one at a time is simply prohibitive. maybe console app history after a slow boot?

My installation was 100% clean less than two months ago (new Mac Studio). I updated Monterey to Ventura beta 3 and all was fine. Then I updated to beta 4, and now beta 5, and I have a 70 second stop/start during boot.

pretty much same experience here. Except I also have apple id issues all of a sudden where beta 5 errors on logging in to my apple id even after reinstall. But the lack of a verbose mode makes it hard to see what's going on during the long pause. sip disabled, security open and tried no startup apps as well. Restore back to Monterey and starts right up fast. maybe it's reporting to apple or some beta diag or something.

I checked the Console logs, and there is simply too much data for me to read anything. I wouldn't even know which log to focus on; the launchd.log, the system.log, or one of the many other logs...

The only thing I am noticing from just a quick scan is that there are a LOT of:

2022-08-15 11:30:28.123695 (system) <Error>: Failed to bootstrap path: path = /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.appinstalld.plist, error = 37: Operation already in progress

yeah, probably just note the time of the hang and see if anything looks laggy there.. Now it is like 2-3 minutes waiting for it to log in.
