looking at getting an Iphone 5S.

At least for the time being that is....

Well, like I said, I know people still using a 5, 5c or even a 4s. It just depends on what you use your phone for. If you just use it for calling, texts, email, music, social media, and YouTube; there's no reason why a 5s won't be able to do those things until it can no longer turn on. Phones are becoming like PCs now where they've reached a point that they are overpowered for the basic tasks that most people use them for. You need brand new smart phone if you want to play the latest graphically intensive mobile games, want the best camera, and the longest possible OS support to get the latest features, but if you only care about the things I mentioned above (which are all a lot of people use their phones for) a 5s can serve you well for some time. It's processor isn't even that much weaker than the A8 in the 6/6+, and it has the same RAM. The 5s is almost 3 years old, but it was a bit ahead of its time with its 64-bit processor.

How long do you need to throw 17 pounds a I month at the 5s?

I can understand money being a concern but I also wouldn't expect apple to support that phone beyond iOS 11. If that isn't of consequence, got for it.

Re-read my post again. The 5s compared to the SE is light years different in terms of power. It has the exact same internals as the 6s. I never commented on the design on the phone. I own the SE and had the 5s prior. Your entitled to your opinion on the design compared to the upcoming iPhone 7, but that's strictly a physical appeal.

In terms of internal specifications, the SE is much more efficient in battery and power. I believe there have been reports of the 5s struggling with the iOS 10 beta, then again it's a beta.

How do you know it's not in production anymore? It was explained to me by a Verizon Regional manager that indeed the 5s is "No longer in production." He explained when new inventory arrives, he receives an itemized list, which states pricing tiers for the phones, which phones are in production and or deleted. When I asked about the 5s, he said verbatim the iPhone 5s is "No longer in production." This was in March 2016, ironically the same time the SE was released.

It is possible the 5s has overstock and certain third party carriers, I.e. Straight Talk, Virgin Mobile) carry them until their sold out, which is not uncommon for third party carriers to sell outdated/obsolete phones. I can tell you no carriers in my area have the 5s.
indeed it's still in production and i am talking about your comment on iPhone 5s, i am using it from the launch day ( will be there years old in this September) and it's still working fine, and now recently i bought iPhone se and difference is not that much in day to day usage

There is a huge difference in the SE and 5s. Everything from the camera, processor, RAM, Co-processor, to GeekBench performance tests. And no, in fact your wrong. The 5s is not in production. I know your from India, but what your seeing is overstock, and in just over a month, the newest iPhone will here and we will see how the 5s compares in with iOS 10.

i live in Canada and originally from India :D OK will see i have both and will compare after ios 10 will be public, but what about iPhone 6ME :(

I think OP should just buy a used 5S on eBay or Swappa for $250. I just recently switched from a 5S to an SE and, while I really like the SE (mostly because of its battery and speediness), it isn't light years ahead of the 5S I have to admit. Battery is way better and yes it is faster but the 5S in comparison is quite usable.

I actually purchased an iPhone 6s Plus and ultimately it was too large for me. Then I purchased the iPhone SE and found out the screen was slightly too small for me and I ultimately not the comfort level I was looking for. So, come September with the debut of the iPhone 7, I will be upgrading back to the 4.7 inch iPhone. However, I did keep my iPhone 6s Plus for my in between my iPad and laptop. I use my 6s+ plus for watching videos, reading emails, news, and/or anything that I can use, which I appreciate the larger screen size and speed.

You Are correct, these phones are overpowered for what we could use them for, depending on your needs or how you actually use the phone. Some really appreciate the camera upgrades or others appreciate the latest versions of iOS and better battery power.

Ultimately, Apple eventually puts these older iPhones in the corner when they release new versions of iOS. And I have read threads where someone upgrades there 5 or 5S to the latest version of iOS to find out the phone is slow, weak, and the battery is dismal. But then again, some users choose not to upgrade to the latest version of iOS, however, Apple ultimately wants the user to upgrade. Guess it all comes down to preference and your needs.

I think some people in this thread are confusing "obsolete" with "discontinued".

Not the same thing.

I know. I saw the back and forth arguing. Just wanted to point out that some people are confusing one word with another.
Yeah it's discounted (hard to digest) and for me no it has not become obsolete. One thing that's confusing me about a iPhone 6s plus user here is why is he getting so much excited about a device which is more like a modified edition of his current device:confused:o_O

I will let you know once I receive the iPhone 7 or 6ME and how it handles iOS 10. Thanks Sunnysunnysingh!
That's what they all say
