I recall getting the 2015 Watch and people being like "dude, why did you do that - you have an iPhone, there's literally no point to it..."

It took me 4 years, 6 months to get interested but I am happy I have one and also as happy I waited out the earlier versions.

I forgot to mention that Apple Pay on the Apple Watch is the first thing that really made me appreciate my watch. It's just so ridiculously convenient to double tap that button and pay with something that's always on my wrist. No more getting out my phone or wallet to pay.

I also wonder where all the guys are who were so emphatic you couldn't wear an Apple Watch in a business environment. I had a hard time believing them then, and it appears they were way off the mark since I see Apple Watches on the wrists of all sorts of folks.

One of the big selling points for the series five for me was discreet time checks during meetings!

Also, discreet baseball scores. Those faculty meetings were WAY too long.

I was one of the idiots that were criticizing it after the reveal. It’s so ugly. Why do we even need it? Why isnt it round? It’s just a watch. blah blah blah. Well, i was completely wrong. That experience made me way more hesitant to even comment on products that dont exist.

Kudos to you for admitting you changed your mind!

Apple ruined the series 0 watches with watchOS 3. I should have never upgraded past os2. It was buggy and made my watch a piece of junk for 4 months until they got it mostly working again with the last version of os3.3.whatever. It worked, but it was dog-Ass slow And had poor battery life.

I use it as a sleep monitor and refuse to upgrade my series 4 past watchOS5.3.whatever To avoid the slowdown upgrades. Screw new features! I just want a fast watch that I paid for, not an upgraded and degraded piece of junk!

Not my experience at all. Series 0 to me was never fast but slow from the start.

I think maybe you misunderstood the Context of first Apple Watch Gold Edition. The point of it, which is just to gain attraction and Apple also probably had a different view at that time of the Apple Watch, when it was more of a ‘fashion device’ where as today it has converted to a ‘Health device‘. The 18K Edition was simply a marketing piece, And it worked. Anyone that purchased it, obviously had the expendable income that wouldn’t care regardless of it’s worth today.
They also gave them to celebrities, as I recall.

Apple didn’t really know where the Watch was headed 5 years ago. No one really did. They marketed it as a fashion accessory, which set it apart from Samsung watches, FitBits, etc. The wide variety of easily swappable bands, and the availability of the aluminum and stainless steel options, as well as the kitchen sink of features (remember the feature to send “heart” messages to others?) made it clear that they were experimenting and trying to see what would catch on. It also was the first “main” product in a long time for which Apple didn’t disclose sales figures.

802.11ax support would be nice to have. Lots more health focus would make it something you could almost not afford to have. Being able to monitor blood glucose would be extremely useful.

I wasn’t enthusiastic about AW0 until with AW2 they announced the waterproof capabilities.

I kept AW2 for 2 years then I have moved to AW4 because I loved the extra space offered by the 44mm.

I’m now seriously considering to buy AW6 later this year, depending on the specs.

For me AW has really been disruptive: once I have started using it, all the other watches I had became useless.

Through AW I became more aware about my activities, sleep quality and weight.

I can really say it changed my life for the better.

I am expecting some day that the device can be thinner, maybe 30% thinner, and in a curve appearance which fits the wrist..... Anyway, I love my org. Watch and the S4 I am using now.....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the Apple Watch launching on April 24, 2015. To mark the occasion, below we reflect on some of the key features added to the Apple Watch over the last five years.

  • 2015: The original Apple Watch was quite slow and relied heavily on a paired iPhone, but it laid the foundation for the future of the device. Available in 38mm and 42mm sizes, the original Apple Watch introduced everything from the Digital Crown scroll wheel to Activity rings. The original lineup included the since-discontinued 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition, priced up to $17,000.
  • 2016: Equipped with a dual-core S2 chip, the Apple Watch Series 2 was up to 50 percent faster than the original Apple Watch. Other new features included a built-in GPS, water resistance up to 50 meters for swimming, and a two times brighter display. Apple also introduced a Series 1 model that was essentially the original Apple Watch with an S2 chip.
  • 2017: Series 3 marked a major step forward for the Apple Watch with LTE cellular connectivity on select models, allowing for users to make phone calls, send messages, stream Apple Music, and more without needing an iPhone nearby. Series 3 models also featured an up to 70 percent faster S3 chip, a barometric altimeter for measuring elevation, and a W2 chip that made Wi-Fi up to 85 percent faster and up to 50 percent more power efficient.
  • 2018: Series 4 marked the arrival of two major health and safety features in Fall Detection and the ECG app. Apple also increased the casing sizes and shrunk down the bezels around the display, resulting in larger 40mm and 44mm options. And with the 64-bit S4 chip, performance became up to two times faster.
  • 2019: Apple Watch Series 5 was a relatively iterative refresh, with new features including an always-on display, a built-in compass, 32GB of internal storage, and international emergency calling on cellular models.
Looking ahead, rumors suggest that Apple Watch Series 6 models will feature sleep tracking, blood oxygen level monitoring, faster performance and Wi-Fi connectivity, further improvements to water resistance, and possibly even a form of Touch ID.

Will series 3 be discontinued this Fall?

to me, sleep tracking always feels like a gimmic. All the others sensors i hope for offer quantifiable data. I’m not so sure sleep tracking can actually “track” sleep.
Yeah, and what exactly can you even do with the data? Like if you wake up and you feel like crap, why do you need your watch to tell you that? You can’t control your sleep (although you can change some things to improve it, but the main point is your watch can’t give you anything that you don’t already know).

Waiting for the lite version of the watch.
The S3 is what you’d want to get if you want a ‘lite’ AW.

i suppose it can track that you had a restless night. And if it happens too often you can see a doctor?

The Apple Watch has not taken a significant leap since the AW3.

Hopefully all the rumors are true, along with a significant processor boost, thinner design with even an incremental battery increase (10% would be great).

You would think the battery would need to be better if sleep tracking is coming in series 6...
