I'd really like to know what airlines you are flying. The 12.9 iPad Pro is practically unusable on the flights that I've been on.

Here's a 13" Macbook Air on the tray table of a flight that I'm typically on. That is approximately the size of the 12.9 iPad Pro. With the person in front fully reclined (which is almost always the case) there is even less room.

Even when swapping out the ASK for the smart cover, the iPad Pro needs to be moved closer (due to the lack of clearance from the reclined seat in front)

I ended up using a wire business card holder (bend slightly to adjust the angle) that fits in the tray table latch hook to watch videos from my iPhone or 7" tablet.

12.9 iPP ASK is half the depth of a laptop keyboard, and you can also fold it back like a normal ipad cover. I never have problems on flights

Delta. But I hold it in portrait exclusively and read. I never watch videos.

I only used the keyboard cover once when I absolutely had to work on a document. It was tight, but okay.

(Edit: Also relevant. I mostly grab exit row seats.)

Just rest your drink on your neighbors tray table. Problem solved! :D
That's like a declaration of war at 35,000 ft!

...but to be perfectly frank, I've watched seat-mates squirm endlessly with laptops and phones and half-expect someone to try it before long. Someone did ask me once - it was an empty cup, so OK.

So I think I might be in the market for an iPad Pro 12.9.
Just started looking around and have a few questions.

Looking for an iPad for my 11yr old son.
Upgrading from an Air 2.
This iPad will mainly be used to surf the net, watch videos, and of course play some games.

For those of you that have his 12.9 iPad, are there any regrets?
Was to big to carry?
Is it easy and portable?
Did you have to buy a case for it or are you able to put it in your backpack no problem?
For you parents, any of your young kids have this iPad?
Is it to big for your kids or all is good?

Thanks

Wow what a gift! Congrats on your purchase, Great choice! It will serve him well in time to come, for school and personal use. I would definitely insure it. And if it's going in a back pack it definitely needs a case. The silicone case goes well with the Smart Keyboard!

Now you don't have to worry about virus and attacks while your "little guy" is doing homework, research or just surfing. Also puts your mind at ease knowing your son has the one of the best mobile computing devices out. Sky's the limit on what can be done on it. As a GM I am waiting for the New one for business & personal. Make sure you come back to Mac rumors if you need to overcome a workflow issue. Tons of pationate people here to help!

Enjoy!

LOL, gotta love the aisle seat.

Somewhat related - I was on a delta flight a few days ago (small plane too). The 9.7" Pro with apple smart keyboard felt like it had a ton of room on the tray. I feel like a 12.9" would have fit ok.

I found this interesting as well - a gentleman in the row in front was using a Surface Pro (not sure which model exactly), but he was having a heck of a time trying to get it to open and stay stable on the tray table. Ended up using it with the keyboard hanging off the tray, causing the very small trackpad to be in an uncomfortable location. He fiddled for a while and then eventually just put it away.

Hell YES!!

Consider yourself a minority in this case. Not that that's a bad thing, but I have dragged 15 and 13 inch notebooks around the world and the vast majority of computers is heavier than an iPad Pro. Not to mention students who until not so long ago often carried hardcover books for their studies that easily outweigh any tablet.

I have had mine for a clue of months now. I enjoy it. Slot more than I thought. Recently had to fly for work on a regional jet. The kind where you can't stand up straight...and did have any problems modeling around on mine 12.9. is the choice for every situation No. But none are. Games can be fun but it isnt the best game console. For a round guy that old...I would opt for a mini or 9.7...but that is just my opinion...good luck Merry Christmas

Picked up my iPad Pro 12.9 on launch day and still love it. I study/lecture from it with no problems. Grading PDF's on the larger screen works great for me. It backpacks pretty easy. I've flown all over the States and Asia/Pacific with it. Smart Keyboard took me a little while to get used to but that's just a reflection of my typing skills. There are times that I wish I had the 9.7 size since I have my iPad with me everyday. However, the screen size is worth the trade-offs in my opinion.
