Looking to get used Macbook Pro. Mid-2012?

Personally, I think it depends on what you do and how much value you place on the difference between 1080 and 1440. Some of the larger computer stores will have such displays on display in a side-by-side comparison. For me, the economy of 1080 sealed the deal. But one could just as easily feel the nicer picture of 1440 justifies a premium.
 
Cool. Got the mid 2012... put a 500gb ssd in it and bought the parcslope wedge stand. Thinking I will install Mac Fan Control because i've been reading about them overheating. Anyone know anything about what settings I should use for Mac Fan Control?

The fans on mine rarely turn on. The only time they do is when I'm converting a video with HandBrake and all the CPU cores are at 100%.

Let the OS run the fans and it should be fine.

(mine is on the latest Sierra, btw; and I'll install High Sierra as soon as the finished build is available)
 
You aren’t worried about your machine overheating? Seems like the thermal paste on these guys would be drying up about now?
 
If the thermal paste is drying up, I recommend replacing the paste as that would be more effective than using a cooling base.

I have a late 2011 13" MBP and the fan never seems to spin very fast and chassis does not get very warm.
 
The mid 2012s kick butt. Been messing around with this one really like it. Normally I use Crucial or OWC SSDs, this one came with a PNY CS1311 480gb... gets decent reviews on Amazon which is promising anyone know anything about PNY? Seems like you have to be on Windows to update the firmware unlike the other two brands which make it a bit easier fopr mac users. Apprehensive to sudo trimforce this just yet until doing a bit of research as I'm not used to PNY... seem safe? Also, is SMC Version 2.2f38 current? Also, Macs Fan Control is being run on the exhaust fan based on sensor based value of GPU PECI start 46C, Max 82C. That seem fine?
 
I've had a 2012 cMBP since about 2013. Last year someone broke into my apartment and my cMBP was stolen. I didn't have insurance so I had to come out of pocket for a new MacBook. Without hesitation I ordered another 2012 cMBP brand new from eBay for $800. I then upgraded to a SSD and 16gb of RAM and have been very happy with the performance. It's my every day computer, but I really only use it for writing, web browsing, email, iTunes, and Youtube.
