It'll probably go gold towards late October then ship 1-2 weeks later. They need some lead time to box/ship all those copies. I'm betting the Leopard upgrade curve will be really nice considering there's all those $100 gift cards from the iPhone peeps. I'm really curious what the ratio is of iPhone owners OS'. I'm guessing about 70 PC/30 Mac. Give or take some for the Linux folks.

I supposed we should see an announcement soon for pre-orders.

Leopard final candidate

i thinks its build 9A527 because its about time that leopard is supposed to come out and their supposed to be giving builds like every second and then have this one biuld out for testing for like 4-6 weeks, and that build was given out over 2 weeks ago, i think its gonna be gold and leopard will be released and on peoples desks by sumtime mid october, who agrees with me?

if it isn't the current build, it has to be fairly soon. i'm sure the boxes and materials have already been made, but you still have to print the dvds and pack them all together. that still takes a little bit of time. here's hoping for a sooner than later october release.

that is the current release, build 9a527

There's publicly available info that shows that 9A527 is not the GM. I'm not going to point to it though, to avoid potentially getting someone in trouble.

Order MBP today, get leopard when it is released?

If I purchase a new machine today, will Apple give me the leopard software when it is released ?

I seem to remember Apple being fairly lenient with their update policy. Anybody reading here have first hand experience with this?

No. They will only offer low-cost upgrades (usually $10) for those who buy after the release date is announced.

most likely not, Apple will probably sometime soon have an event announcing the date that Leopard is shipping on and all Macs bought after that date will get a free or very discounted copy of Leopard.

When Leopard is finally released, there will be tons of Vista vs Leopard reviews from technology companies (CNET etc.). This is a good time for Apple to shine with stability and compatibility beating Vista...

i wish the whole world switches to mac and forget windows, microsoft is boring, wen u go to use ur computer... well, its just boring, microsoft is boring, they dont even make their own computers (excluding microsoft surface), apple is interesting, their products are ALWAYS updated, and their computers are fun to use and very stylish, and the ceo is cool, unlike boring, nerdy gates

Well, I used to get mad at the countdown things when I didn't care about what version of Mac OS X was coming out, but now I cannot wait for one. Apple usually does, if you remember, post some sort of countdown on their home page one month before the release date.
