iPad had strong sales this quarter… But Tim Cook attributed it to the iPad Air and the iPad Mini versus the iPad Pro. Both the current iPad Air and iPad Mini are great products, and I bet the new “regular” iPad (8GB RAM, new lower priced trackpad) will be one of the most successful iPads in years.

The M4 iPad Pro (which I own, and is by the numbers a good product) is just too expensive, and offers too few benefits, over the iPad Air or previous iPad Pro models. I am not making this an iPadOS vs MacOS thing - I am just comparing the capabilities across the current iPad line. This product is the one that made me realize that with many Apple products, it makes sense to buy the lower priced model, or to just hold on to the older model for longer, as the products last longer and new models are incremental.
I realized that a while back, but what really pushed me was my diminishing trust in Apple. If they can pull this off without canceling it at the last minute, it might just turn into a hit product. 🙄

It is not a flop per se, it is just most expensive and thus a least sold model. It is like to say that Lexus is flop relative to Toyota

These days, I'm guessing it's attrition--rather than ultra-fantastic improvements--that drive new sales.

I certainly can relate to that. For me each iteration of hardware is undeniably better than the previous generation and yet without any meaningful (to me) improvements in available workflows on the software side I lack interest in upgrading. With the advent of greater hardware parity between Mac and iPad Apple has had the potential to push the tablet space even further for a while now, it's just that they continue to scratch the surface and aren't really moving the needle quickly. I basically feel similarly about the iPhone and watch. My wallet certainly isn't complaining.

It’s like clockwork every year when a new iPad Model is released. When IPad Pro was released early last year iPad Mini was compared to iPhone mini as dead in the water. When new iPad Pro launches, you will see iPad mini flop threads.
I agree. My M1 iPP is still wicked fast, has 1TB storage. I know IOS inside and out,and it serves my every need!

I need a new iPad to replace my 2018 IPP so that I can pass it on to my wife to replace her decrepit 9.7” IPP.
I would have already purchased the M4 if it wasn’t that it would force me to get a new keyboard and a new pencil. That is what is pushing the price to unacceptable levels. The iPad in itself is not too bad.
I am seriously considering an Apple refurbished M2 instead, and keep my keyboard and pencil. This would save me almost ÂŁ500 (GBP).
