"LOOPRumors has learned that Apple is planning on naming the iPhone 5 the iPhone V, using the Roman numeral V (as with OS X) rather than the Aramaic number 5. The V would have a double entendre, however, as the V would represent a CDMA version of the iPhone which would work on the Verizon network.
Our source revealed that the iPhone V will be announced within 3-6 months. This timeframe seems relatively soon as it comes on the heals of the iPhone 4 release, however, the problematic iPhone 4’s antenna and September 30th deadline of the free bumper cases make the timing more credible."

The iPhone V name is nice. Although iPhone 5 would be okay as well

As for the Verizon linking. Don't see it. Besides, if the iPhone is offered on other networks, it won't only be Verizon.

Sounds like a great idea - and it makes sense from a marketing point of view - but there surely won't be another iPhone model until Summer 2011.

First of all, it wouldn't be the next model, but an iPhone 4 with CMDA chipset.

Granted, they might make some modifications to the antenna, as well. :)

Unless they do a dual GSM/CMDA phone (which I kindofo hope they do), they wouldn't likely name it V because then the rest of the world will be asking why they can't get the V in their countries.

But then Apple has tended to care more for marketing lately than function, so you never know.

Hmm a naming scheme based on a single network provider in the US...

Lets call the worldwide name for the next iPhone, the iPhone USA.

I doubt they would name it a "V" intending for a double meaning. IF iPhone goes to Verizon I'm sure it will stay on ATT as well and just work on multiple carriers so to name a whole device FOR the network seems silly.

I don't buy the time frames at all either- I mean I'm just a guy throwing in his two cents but Apple has a lot to do in the next 6 months and launching an "in between" iPhone seems trivial at best. 3 million people just bought a new iPhone LAST MONTH.

If I was Apple I would worry about the new iPod touch, apple TV, new iPad, etc

Apple will have only 1 phone as new product...it wont and hope Apple does not become Android where they have gazillion phones..only 1 Model a year is fine...:apple::apple:

In all fairness the iphone will come to VZW, it just makes sense for apple, VZ is the largest carrier, much larger than att. They will have LTE up and running soon and they have a nationwide LTE 700 mhz license which att doesnt. So I believe the iphone will come to VZW but it will differ than the att version. I bet it will have a 3.7 inch screen and other goodies.

For what it is worth, they are CDMA iphones being tested , they have shown up in the bart train wifi logs, it seems testers have been logging on the San Francisco Bart Train's wifi while commuting...............

2 phones is different than having a "gazillion." + Apple takes care of comparability issues through the sdk. I'd also imagine that apple would keep the hardware identical besides the modem. It'd be a nonissue to have a verizon version
