Yeah, there seems to be something missing in the story - you handed the iPhone back to your co-worker, but then had it in your possession to return to the student. How did you get it back from your co-worker?

OK to explain that point,
The iphone was given back at her request so she could keep it for a week and then throw away if no one came back to me. When i managed to get hold of someone the phone owner knew i asked for the phone from my coworker so i could return it to the rightful owner.
TBH i think she is under the impression that i kept the phone for myself but really could not careless what she thinks. She had plenty of time to return the unit herself but decided if she cant have it then why should she find the owner. Selfish bint
The owner has there iphone back and i still have a stupid Samsung wave HD - Bloody nice camera on that though,
Great job OP! Good thing your co-worker was stupid enough not to be able to reset the iPhone herself. My guess is you will get some really fine French chocolates.

and shouldn't the "reward" go to the co-worker? who must of given the phone back to you to deliver it to person?

The co-worker wanted to keep it and throw it in the river. Why should they receive the reward?
Your right the co worker did give it back to me, after i scared them to death that MobileMe was working and the owner was looking for the phone,
They were Under the impression that the phone movements could be tracked to my office and so to them, to which i advised her politely that i would inform the owner where the phone was found and by whom! Thus leading to them getting into some serious issues in my company and in there partners as to why the phone was no longer in this location.
Nothing missing from the story and the phones owner is mighty happy to have there phone back and not having to go fishing for it.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why people try to keep things that can be returned rather easily. Or steal things that can be tracked.

However, he and his buddies did get some revenge... but I'll leave it to your imagination as to how that was handled.
