The Misty Mountains
An animated anthology of short stories, 20 min max. It tends to be violent, dark stories, with profanity, and some nudity. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I’m about a third of the way through Season 1, and the two most impressive example of what I would describe as cutting edge animation, are Sonnie’s Edge about human fighters mentally wired into beasts for to-the-death arena fights. And The Witness, a cyberpunk setting, about a woman who witnesses a murder and is then pursued.

This is a must see if you like SF and/or animation. Lots of different animation styles & types of story on offer, so it's worth trying a few (they're shorts, anyway, so it can afford a few 'misses')

Season 3 coming 20th May, apparently... Helping to earn my Netflix subscription a short reprieve...

The stories include many from well-known, often Hugo-laden SF authors who make those foldy paper things with writing on. It's good to see SF short stories - which are often of the "dump an intriguing idea and run" variety - presented as shorts rather than spun out into longer episodes.

One thing that bugs me is that Netflix are really hyping the "adults only" aspect in their description, to the point that they sometimes make it sound like outright porn. I guess they're they're worried about "all animation is for kids" syndrome leading to complaints from parents who sit their 5-year-olds down in front of "the cartoons". Although it is definitely not for granny and the kids, and there's a fair bit of sex, nudity, gore, bad language and horror, it's not predominantly (in my opinion) the "adult content nudge, nudge, wink wink oo-er missus..." kind of "adult content". There are live action shows with worse (*cough* Game of Thrones *cough*) that distributors don't feel obliged to keep describing as "adults only" beyond the usual content ratings.

My impression is that many different animation studios have been tasked to or submit their projects to be included in this series.

The good thing about this series is that it's non specific order.

LOL... thankfully that is the case. So many good little stories. The breading one, I could see them making a movie out of it. A full length one. Actually there were a few I could see full length movies out of!

The one about the giant on the beach and were some of his "bones" ended up. Had me cracking up. Oh and the one about the rats. The scorpion looking rat killer had me dying. I was laughing so hard.

There is one that is quite graphic to explain in detail, but it relates to an alien parasite using a human as a toy in more ways than one and feeding on his body.

I just started watching this. Very impressed by how all the episodes I've seen are consistently likable in their own way. My favorite episode so far would probably by Beyond the Aquila Rift (I'm only about half a dozen episode in). Although I think the name Sex, Death, and Robots would have been a more apt name for the series.😂

The Aquila Rift is good. I also liked the Secret War... Some of these could be stand alone movies as I find myself wanting more! I haven't been disappointed yet. Have about six episodes left in the series.

The Dracula being afraid of the cat got me. Also, the one on the guy who gets eaten by a shark in the desert.

This is what I hate about anthologies, you get something outstanding, but then it's gone...

Or stupidity. Some of the episodes are just parodies of some real life societal complacencies like the Vaccuubot.
