Again...why didn't you walk 2 feet and pick up an iPad 4. You were at the store with a curiosity... but instead decided to ignore the actual tablets you were comparing it to, and still feel confident to make a controversial post to show just how much you "didn't notice any difference" versus another tablet you never even held before.

I was just at the Apple store to pick up my Air... I think I saw about 10 airs next to 10 Minis? Guess I didn't get a close enough look  The difference in device size is miniscule when comparing how much bigger the actual screen is.

Unless you carry around a purse... needing a device that's only that much smaller seems pointless. Unless you just love smaller screens for whatever reason... if that was the case then totally fine with me.

I'm not sure why you're so angry about this-I've had every iPad that has ever been released. I have a Mini now because IMO it's the size/weight/form factor that it should have been all along. But I was still intrigued by the Air and wanted to see for myself if I felt it would be acceptable to me.

I tried it, found it still larger and heavier than my Mini (which yes, I realize it is) but specs are one thing, experience is something totally else.

So, in conclusion:

Have owned iPad 1,2,3,4, currently Mini

Picked up Air

Thought "hmm-not as light or small as I was expecting"

*waits for Retina Mini*

That was my only point.

Keep your receipt. Once you see the retina mini for $100 cheaper and read the reviews you may have a change of mind; most of you will have a change of mind.

Don't tell them that! There is already going to be limited supply and we don't need any more competition when ordering our Minis! :D Especially only a week before Black Friday.

For what I do on my iPad: Reading books, streaming stuff in bed, and casually browsing the web — the Mini serves this purpose better for me. The Air's height is too big to grasp onto and hold over your head.

I'm glad you guys like your Airs, but it's still not right one portability and one-handed use.

This is why both product lines exist, for these different uses.

Glad you're happy. Coming from an iPad 1, the difference will be huge.

It is huge. I upgraded from my iPad 1 to the air. The weight difference is night and day. And the old model compared to this feel like a slab of thick aluminium.

Also retina vs iPad 1 screen is night and day. After getting used to the air, I went back to the iPad 1 and text now looks so blurry. :D

I sold my mini to get the Air sight unseen. I am not regretting it. Although its heavier than the Mini I can comfortable hold the Air with one hand for a while. I needed to give my content room to breathe and the Air does that.

The Making of Star Wars iBook looks fabulous on the Air.
*runs to the the book store*

Love My Air! Mini vs. Air - Think Twice

I just picked up the Air and it's going back to the store tomorrow. I'm not impressed with it and prefer the size and portability of the Mini. The Air's screen is nice but I don't think it's worth it for me to pay $100 more for extra screen real estate. The iPad (Air or Mini) is just a media consumption device for me. If I want to use productivity apps, I'll use my MBP. I'll return the Air and wait for the Mini with Retina+LTE.

I am loving the Air. I had an iPad 3 then got a mini this summer primarily because it was lighter. I could see everything okay on the mini but wear bifocals so thought I'd try the Air since it is so light. It seems huge compared to the mini but so far I am quite happy with the Air.

Same here. But going to wait 13 more days before returning since I already sold my mini....

I went form ipad three then to mini and just picked up the air tonight. Weight wise the air does not seem much different then my mini. Speed wise something's you can tell a big difference and other things not so much. One nice thing is wifi is much better. With the mini typeing in portrait was more comfortable. But one hand use is just as easy with the air for me as the mini was.

The difference speedwise between the old mini and the Air is amazing. Infinity Blade loads so fast I don't even see the sword animation. Wow, just wow. Not to mention the game itself looks AWESOME in the larger retina screen....

Love My Air! Mini vs. Air - Think Twice

One thing Apple needs to do is work out the bugs and fully optimize iOS7 to benefit from the hardware upgrade. I already notice slight lag in scrolling in Safari and still have to wait a little for apps to open. Text input lag is also noticeable when I type fast on the virtual keyboard while using the Notes app.

The retina display is really nice when viewing movies. Pacific Rim looks great on this small screen!

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Some people will surely change their minds, but you are mistaken if you think most people are going to swap out for a mini.

This may come as a surprise, but not everyone is like you. There is no one right choice.

I agree, everyone is different. But I can see how the mini is going to give many Air users "mini envy". I bought the mini because of size. But the performance and screen were not too good. Now that the mini has retina and A7, I think it will sell even more than the Air. The smaller size is very nice.

I may keep my Air because I am enjoying the larger screen, but I am missing the smaller lighter mini. I wish I could have both. Hmmmmm......

I just came from the apple store where I wanted to be "wowed" by the iPad Air. I currently have a "the new iPad with Retina" which is I guess the 3rd generation.

It's still iOS7.

Its lighter, but its the same thing - the same icons, the same animations, when I open an app, it opens. The music sounds the same, the websites I pull up look the same.

I question whether it's going to be as durable as my The New iPad with Retina Display.

I didn't buy it. I still want it but I can't bring myself to dropping the ~$800 just for a thinner case and lighter weight. Speed differences might be there, but we're really talking in milliseconds, and that's not worth it to me.

I'm sad.

Bro I kinda felt the same way. Bought the mini back in january returned it for a 32 gig wifi ipad 4 and played with the air today and left empty handed. I really wanted a retina mini all along. Ill probably buy a 128 gig when they come out later this month because I am a fan of the size but I'm in agreement with you; it didn't seem worth it to me

I had a friend that let me try out his iPad mini for a couple of days to compare the screen size to my iPad 1. And for the things I do on my iPad and the ways I use it, I found I missed the larger screen on my iPad 1. So I'm iff to the store today to pick up a 32gb air. If the apple store here is out of stock, there's a department store that also sells them, and a supermarket, and if they're all out I'll just order it online. But I'd rather have the instant gratification of picking one up in a store

I agree 100% (except that I'm going to stick with my Air). I'm just questioning the logic behind "I prefer the smaller one, therefore everyone else will too!"
