Although I get 5120x1440 with my M1, when the machine wakes from sleep 50% of the time it wakes in a lower resolution and I have to manually select it again. My 2018 Mini doesn’t have this problem.

Today my M1 Mini arrived. I unplugged my 2018 Mini and plugged the same cables into the M1. It took me over an hour just to get any picture at all!

I have a Samsung 49” ultrawide.

To fix the issue I set the DisplayPort settings on the monitor to V1.2 and changed the refresh rate to 60. Now I get 5220x1440 on a M1 Mini with 1 DisplayPort cable.
I am thinking about a Mac Mini M1, to connect to my Samsung C49.
But, my connection would be HDMI, since my Display Port will remain connected to my Windows computer (Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060).

Curious, have you tried via HDMI, and if so, any issues? Thanks

I’ve tried by C to HDMI cable and it doesn’t work at all nor does HDMI to HDMI.

I'm having the same issue with my mini M1. Two LG 27UL850's connected via USB-C and via HDMI.
First one has a resolution of 3008 x 1692 which I can not select on the second monitor.

I tried SwitchresX to force the resolution which works but it is then not in HiDPI mode making the image less sharp than the first monitor.

There must be a way to have the same 3008 x 1692 resolution in HiDPI mode on both screens, right?
Other cable options maybe?

I'm sitting here crying at my desk.
I'm so ****ing tired of this.
Had display problems for 3 years with my old MBP 2017. Every day at work I would be fiddling for well over 30 minutes, to my bosses dismay, and half of the days I'd just sit there with one display, while the other 27" just sat dark for me to glance longingly at as space became scarce.

So, I sent for the M1 six weeks ago. I waited, and waited, and finally it arrived day before last. It's the first time since 2008 that I've fallen in love with a computer, I honestly love this thing. The sound, the keyboard! I didn't dare plug her into my two displays for this reason... I just ****ing knew it would be more of the same **** as the last three years. Alas, I was right, and therefor I cry.

It allows me one or the other — either the subpar coloured 34" Acer, or the limited spaced, but beautiful, 27" Dell. The first is HDMI to Usb-c, the other Usb-c to Usb-c with charging.
However I try, it will not allow me both.

I'm so goddamn tired. Tired of spending thousand upon thousand on tech that eats my time with mundane plugging and unplugging, tired of adapters that break down every three months... Tired of being tied to a system I love and do not want to leave.

I feel your pain and unfortunately, all the reporting to Apple does bugger all, even if you spend days on line/phone with a live human. You get all the cuddly huggy responses and nothing ever happens.

In reality I think you need to change your monitors for your sanity. Try a single ultra wide for a dual screen experience.

I have the same monitor and issue. Can you tell me how you changed the refresh rate? Mine seems to default to 120 and I can't get 5220 resolution.

i'm using my 1080p monitor with my m1 mac mini via the hdmi port, but it looks a bit blurry, should I buy a type c to HDMI?

Please read this page carefully:

It described how to fix "blurry fonts" in Mojave, but the same commands -might work- in Big Sur.
The only way to find out is to try them.

RE-enable subpixel antialiasing for non-retina displays:
defaults write -g CGFontRenderingFontSmoothingDisabled -bool NO

Then log out and log back in.

Enable subpixel antialiasing smoothing:

Light font smoothing:

defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 1

Medium font smoothing:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2

Heavy font smoothing:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 3

NO font smoothing:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 0

Remember, you have to log out and then log back in after each change to see the results.
If these commands DO produce changes for you, I suggest you try EVERY ONE of them, then pick the one you like best...
