M1 hardware encoded h.264 videos randomly too large

Has anybody else experienced the issue that videos encoded with the M1 hardware encoder for h.264 will randomly be much larger than other times even when the videos are very similar and encoding is done with the exact same settings?

yes, hardware encoded file size is significantly larger than software encoded.

Because the hardware encoder is using completely different settings for example RefFrames

did you work with quality or bitrate settings?

RF (software) and CQ (hardware) are also different.

Same, here. For my archive I keep using software rendering, because i will use some settings to also get a better playback on Coreplayer for my G5 and G4.

I have optimized my settings for years to get the best results for me, and hardware rendering don#t give me the options.
 
@TzunamiOSX When using h.265 hardware encoder there is no problem, the output respects the target bit rate and is never suddenly much larger. Unfortunately Zoom doesn't allow choosing the codec.
