is it worth it to get one now or hold off for m2 iPads? I have an 11" but not the m1 one. and I have a 14" mbp. 11" is fine but feel like I need more screen real estate. drawing and media consumption. thanks guys

Are you in a rush?

If you can afford to wait until Spring 2023, it might be worth waiting for the new model. That or clearance/refurb deals on the 2021 if you decide the new Pro isn’t worth it.

Rumors point to them arriving this year already. Regardless, at this point it's best to wait. When M2 arrives, M1 will start appear on Apple refurbished. Power is probably not an important factor at this point, but maybe they can improve the blooming like they did on the M1 pro Macbooks

True, current rumors are end of this year but supply chains are still kinda messed up so who knows when the actual release would be.

Plus I expect new M2 Macs would get priority so M2 iPad Pro could have long backorders if they actually do get released this year.

Some retailers are already marking down M1 iPads. If you can find a good deal I think you’d be happy with what you get today. I don’t think the M2 will be much faster, and will probably not be available for a while (6-12 months)

Same thoughts here, if one gets a good deal on the current one, they’re very good devices and I don’t expect the m2 variants to introduce major changes.

Everything I read about the 2022 is that it’s going to be a very modest update. Probably a faster chip but the M1 is already a beast improvement in the real world will probably not be much. Other than that there might be Mag Safe. For me it’s pretty useless on an iPad. If you can get a M1 12.9 at a discount it’s a no brainer

I ordered a 1TB 2021 12.9 iPad Pro (16gb of Ram) from Apple on Launch Day and waited 6 weeks for it arrive. I can't imagine how long the wait times will be for the 2022 models this year! Choose wisely.

Not a complaint but a caveat - the way things have been going with some Apple hardware and software, it is hard to simply buy and not worry about issues and bugs (and how long it takes for Apple to fix some and not others). Often better to wait a bit for the issues to pop up and see if Apple fixes them. It is sad given that what once made Apple great was the lack of issues and now... well we see it with operating systems, monitor screens, scroll, certain monitors not handling resolution and hertz properly, external drives that don't reach their full potential (slow writes with Thunderbolt)... For me, I might want the upcoming model but would not buy it right away if I was able to wait.

I woke up late when preorders opened. Luckily, I woke up early on release date and managed to grab the config I wanted (12.9 1TB 5G) for ISPU. Iirc, 1TB wifi were still available for ISPU even around lunchtime.

I ordered the same config (with 5G) and got it delivered for launch. Absolutely love it.

I am okay with the iPad I have now. If there was something to have value (for me), it would be either a card slot or an additional usb-c port to add storage or some hardware that would work with some software installed (audio etc.).

IMHO youre covered for a good while.
Perhaps M2 iPad Pro will be worth it.
