iPad Pro 2021 upgrade is more interesting than 2020 version
- much bigger performance jump with M1 than A12X to Z
- Mini LED and hdr
- better front camera and center stage
- thunderbolt / faster storage

granted on the 11” it’s pretty incremental. And I fully agree on the watch series 6. Same with the new Apple TV Btw. Thing is at some point you really can’t make huge leaps forward anymore. I feel the iPhone is in that situation too.

Current “revolutions“ are more on the internals with the silicon switch than with the look and feel of the devices.
and on the software side (I hope)
With the AS revolution, we’re ironically eagerly waiting for that last hope! I’m holding off until WWC, to get the 12.9” 16GB, as I feel crippled software isn’t worth the extra 660EUR...if that changes even the 11” will be appealing.

What? The new iPad especially the 12.9” is a huge leap. What other company is shipping a tablet with a processor that out performs the current 16 inch MacBook Pro? Also;
1. Mini LED screen
2. 5G
3. Wi-Fi 6
3.Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40Gb/s)
4. New and better front facing cameras than ALL current macs’s and previous generation iPads
5. M1 first 5nm processor that is 50% faster than the previous generation, sips power.
6. More RAM
7. Faster and larger storage options.

What exactly should they have done to impress you?
Offer all that but keep the price tag!?😜

He posted a new YouTube video comparing the new iPad Pro with his galaxy tab S7 plus
Yes there's some visible blooming around the subtitles, although that could be accounted for the cameras automatic exposure reacting to XDR's brighter display (and greater size subtitles). Still...

The 12.9" model is looking fantastic in my eyes at least, love the new display.
Bought my Macbook Air in 2014, it has served me very well (making this post on it now) but I am ready to upgrade specifically because because of the display.
I will either get the iPad Pro 12.9" or any of the new Macbook Pro 14" or 16", it depends on how this iPadOS is developed.

Cancelling your order based on a thread based on speculation on a screen that few people have ever seen in real life? Seems like a good plan 👍

It also seems like a “good plan” hurling insults at internet strangers. Great work!

Waiting for my new iPP (replacing my 2018) and cant wait for the new display.
I use the iPP a lot for watching movies/tv shows and im pretty sure tht this new display will look a lot better.

But im kinda wondering the people really believe tht there will be no blooming at all. Its not oled, its mini led, so yes there will be some kind of blooming for sure. But is tht really a big deal? Not for me. The Mini led will be a big step forward compared to the display of the 2018/2020.

I hardly think I ‘hurled’ any insults at anyone. I’m just pointing out that you’re basing your decision on pure speculation and over zealous opinions, not to mention blurry images shot on phone cameras with non locked AE, uploaded to youtube, and then watched on whatever medium the end user is using.
I would think it would be much better to see the product in action with your own eyes - but I suppose I maybe wrong.

This thread is about iPad Pro so we're talking about tablet here. What OLED tablet has 540 nits minimum brightness?

Do any OLED tablets claim to be HDR?

And the iPhone 11 and 12 are both in excess of 540 nits.

And did I not also say Mini LED is an excellent choice for an iPad?

Now I'm confused lol. Aren't your argument that OLED more suitable for HDR viewing on tablet than this miniLED screen? (since this is a tablet topic)
The fact that there are no OLED screen this bright in tablet should tell you why Apple didn't choose OLED for this IPP.
And the iPhone 11 and 12 are both in excess of 540 nits.
Still only half of this miniLED.
And did I not also say Mini LED is an excellent choice for an iPad?
You DID?

Looks, no one says OLED is a bad screen. I already said multiple times that it gives more informations than miniLED but it just doesn't suit for this IPP at this time. Who know next generation of OLED screen might be able match miniLED in term of brightness. It's just not now.

People like that are just jealous ignore them,
He is just trying to make himself feel better because he really wants one, but can't afford it

No, sir. My initial responses were to 1 or 2 people claiming that Mini LED was superior to OLED because the picture quality would be so much better since it can get brighter. I said that it’s simply untrue, and that Mini LED is better for an iPad for other reasons and that brightness doesn’t make HDR any better, noting the blooming that’s evident here. I then also said it’s clearly the best implementation of Mini LEDs yet.

I like that this device uses LCD. I think that as both a multimedia device and a potential laptop replacement that it’s more appropriate - primary concern is image retention. I’m not sold on OLED as a computer monitor, to boil it down to the lowest level. But picture quality is not a reason I would ever quote.

Considering how good the current iPad screen is, and how little it makes me care about OLED, the OLED faithful ranting about how much better it is than the new miniLED rings hollow to me. For a TV in a batcave for dedicated movie/TV watching? Heck yeah go with OLED. For a tablet? MiniLED sounds perfect to me.

Thank you. If it is going to have those white “artifacts” that glow or provide that constant “hue”, I might be cancelling my order.

Speculators gonna speculate:

Assuming he doesn’t have the actual screen to test, what you’re seeing is a mock-up. He’s speculating the amount of zones in use, and if his speculation is correct, software could enable more zones to produce more accurate separation.

So in summary, we won’t know the capabilities of the Apple screen until the release.

Besides HDR is also about color space and OLED in many cases lags behind LED when it comes to color volume. Top end LEDs can have 5-10% more color volume than top OLEDS which means much more vivid colors.
Mobile OLED display are almost exclusively RGB, so unlike WRGB TVs, they have full color volume.

You know image retention will affect image quality, right? So “picture quality” should be a concern for you and anyone else.

Absolutely nobody wants to view HDR content on a monitor that’s displaying different levels of dark\light. Image retention would be a major issue for graphics artists and photo editors.
