Did you notice that the bezels are thicker than the m1 pro models?

Is it because it isn’t OLED and promotion?

Probably a purely aesthetic choice, like the iPad Air vs iPad Pro. OLED doesn't come into it for iPads or MacBooks.

I'm not seeing thicker bezels on the sides or top, and just a hair thicker on the bottom, which seems to match the others and makes the display seem more centered.

I think it's because of the size of keyboard deck and touchpad.

They could shrink the top and bottom bezels, but that would force the deck and pad to be smaller.

The M2 Air isn't that much smaller than the 14" MacBook Pro - not sure why the Air needs to have bigger bezels. The machine itself could've been a tad smaller with thinner bezels as there is ample room on either side of the keyboard, or the display could've been a hair larger in the same chassis but with thinner bezels.

Left/right is where the speakers are. The display lid is now taller, but that's due to the bigger display.

Is it because of the dark blue body? I don’t think the difference in bezel size is as noticable with the lighter silver options; but I think they are slightly larger than the pro’s

Is there any actual information about bezel size or actual active screen area in Air M2?
I puzzled because Air M2 screen is supposed to be just 64 pixels taller but same width as in Air M1. However seeing some videos from Apple event when Air M2 and Pro M2 were side by side bezels in left and right side seemed definitely thinner in Air than Pro, but what is interesting is that Air and Pro M1 should have the same size bezels. Then looking at the photos on the Apple web site comparing Air M1 and M2 side by side there bezel size in left and right side seem identical to me...???

It just does not make any sense to me how it could be thinner in left and right side in Air M2, unless screen size is actually measured from the rounded corners which it should not be if I read correctly what it says on Apple web site about how it is measured where they specifically say it is measured as retangular so that actual screen area is smaller than 13.6".

Anyone else wondering the same?

You can calculate exact side bezel width of MBA using Apple specs.

M2 = 0.27”
M1 = 0.35”

anyone have a side by side pic comparison of the m1 Pro vs. M2 air? (Bessel)? Assuming the air will have thicker Bessels..

am not worried about the M2 bezels, just happy they're smaller than the older air ones. plus, i have a metalworking file, and can always file down the sides of the new air, until there are no bezels at all. problem solved!

Can you show your calculations please? I can't quite see how you work it out!

Take the horizontal resolution and divide by the PPI. This will give you the exact display width. Then take the chassis width and subtract the result. Divide by two to determine the width of each side.

M2 MBA
2560 pixels / 224 PPI = 11.43 inches (display width)

11.97 inches (chassis) - 11.43 inches = 0.54 inches (total bezel width)

0.54 inches/2 = 0.27 inches (bezel on each side)

Apple have pulled this crap for years and it annoys me they don’t get any heat from reviewers etc for it. This is the third product to do this now (iPhone XR/11 and iPad air). At the time it could be argued that it’s for a technical reason but now they’ve done it with the air its clearly to make it look worse compared to the pro models.

what crap exactly? you think that apple, who has always considered the aesthetic value of it's products, has been 'pulling crap for years', and is purposely trying to make ugly products? and that there are no technical reasons for the design??

you're entitled to your opinion, but don't confuse that for reality 🙄

I did some display area calculations and assuming M2 is 16:10.4 aspect ratio (that extra 64 pixels (2560 x 1664) makes sense to me that it is now 16;10.4 instead of 16:10 in M1’s 2560x1600), so based on that it seems M2 screen width is about 3 millimeters more than in M1. So about 1.5 millimeters thinner bezel on the left and right side, total 3 millimeters.

If M2 display was only 13.45” diagonal size, then it would be equal width as M1’s if I’m not mistaken.
