Hello . Does this usually happened in Macbook air M2 after long time usage?
My guess is after long term usage the probability you do the thing to make it happen increases, not that usage creates the problem

I just bought a (used) M1 macbook air and noticed the same problem. (I'm running macOS 15.5).

However, in my case, I noticed it is NOT a hardware issue, it is definitely a software issue. It has nothing to do with the lid sensor.

Yes, I've heard people say if they close the lid, and re-open it (a 2nd time), the screen will turn on as it should. (This applies to me as well).

BUT I've found an easier work around: If you try to wake your computer from sleep, and the screen stays dark (i.e., the screen pixels turn on but not the blacklight), hit ESC (to turn off the screen again), wait at least 1 second, then press any other key to re-wake it a 2nd time, and the screen will turn on properly.

It's not a fix, but it's much easier than repeatedly opening/closing your screen (and puts less wear and tear on your hinges too)

Guys I have installed Tahoe that was released today just as others the issue is no longer present!!!! Finally after Ventura, Sonoma and Sequoia they have fixed the issue.

From the lock screen, Even after repeatedly pressing the escape key to turn off the display which used to brick the Macbook in Ventura and Sonoma and reboot in Sequoia, the issue is no longer present. I do not know if it is a permanent fix but I hope so. I have also tried setting display sleep as hot corners and it works. I have attached a short video showing me pressing the Escape and turning off the display from the lock screen.

I think somehow they fixed the issue by adding a small delay,? lmk what you guys think?

Let me know if you guys have it fixed or not! Lol I was expecting Apple to abandon the M2s but they proved me wrong.
