How do you know this? I’m assuming that there is a difference in the hardware that generates the electromagnetic field in the iPad. It wouldn’t have taken 4 years to add this feature if it were just a software feature.
Common sense? Kinda like when Apple implemented 3D Touch or whatever into the iPhone and then later took it out for a software alternative

It already works on my 2018 pro with accessibility/hover text function, so it is capable. It would be a shame to close out old ipad pros again. We need to cry about it and maybe we will get it as stage maneger?:D

Be interested to know how this ends up working with Sidecar, Universal Control. Or if there’s an app that can now take advantage of the Pencil as a Mouse input style stylus, like Wacom.

3D Touch is a hardware feature that only some iPhones had the hardware for. Apple disabled it in software. That doesn’t mean they could have enabled it on all iPhones with software.

Sure they could have. All they had to do was program the software to pop up a menu when the user holds down the finger on the app for "x" amount of seconds. Instead, Apple decided to make a selling point to get the latest and greatest iPhone.

Haptic Touch is the touch and hold method. 3D Touch uses the physical pressure sensors built into the displays of iPhone 6s to X. Of the two, I still like the pressure-based 3D Touch better. It enabled swipe multitasking on the 6s, 7, and 8, and the flashlight/camera buttons on the X felt like pressing actual buttons.
Agreed on this. The hold touch version is a tad too slow, I guess to avoid false positives.
The 3D Touch was great, pressing hard enough would go through a harder haptic tap back that would communicate to the user that it was doing the secondary tap action almost instantly.
Had an iPhone X just before a 12 Pro currently and for a week it felt like waiting for ages for the action to happen…

Looking forward to try this hover functionality, hopefully many apps embark on it soon and who knows, I still dream for the day when all those apps that are already on M1-2 macs to be on an iPad Pro: C4D, Blender, Final Cut Pro (like, for real, no need to wait).
Resolve/Octane leading the way is massive news on this front.

Then I'm not sure why Apple got rid of it. Still, Apple could have put a feature that's 99% similar on the previous iPhones.

No SD Card; no MagSafe 3; no Pro.

Hover over those new iPad prices. The iPad line, like the iPhone line, is a mess. iPad 10th gen is too much like Air for Air to exist. iPad with home button should not exist. Lineup should be iPad mini, 10th gen iPad and iPad Pro... and the Pro should have Pro port selection.
Don't forget the SE3 with home button shouldn't exist either, yet since it does the iPad base exists.

I think this will be awesome. I hope this will be opened to developers soon.
It’s a setting on the M1 iPad Pro too in the accessibility menu, you can use the Apple Pencil even when not touching the screen, just hovering over it if you really want

You for got 50% more memory bandwidth and 80% faster neuro engine.
No difference really compared to using the thunderbolt port and a thunderbolt pendrive. The M1 and M2 iPad Pros have the exact same thunderbolt 4 port and both have 5G connectivity. I don’t use a SIM card in my iPad Pro, so I transfer to my iPhone via its 5G hotspot and then upload since it does the exact same thing
