Am I missing something? I must be.

Pricing out a 13" Macbook Air and Pro for my girlfriend.

Both come with 16GB ram and 512SSD

Both are priced at $1,699. Am I missing the obvious here?

New MBP M2 kept the crappy 720p webcam so one advantage to the MBA M2.

Hope they improved the passive thermal throttling on the MBA otherwise what's the point of increased specs to have it thermal throttle?

The new MBA has a 13.6-inch screen and Magsafe. The MBP is still 13.3-inch and no Magsafe. But it has a Touch Bar.

MBP has fans for "sustained performance". MBA is totally silent.

I think the MBA is the better buy for the everyday user, the MBP is the better buy for someone who will really PUSH their Mac hard.

Go the M2 MBA, the one WilliApple said wouldn't launch today.

Don't understand the existence of the M2 on the MacBook Pro 13" this model should be just eliminated.

Anyhow.. This Air is quite expensive even beyond the 1299€ previously discussed, only having support to one display and all the models to pick up on store are 8GB... Quite a mess.

The point is, the MBP is supposed to be the better machine overall.

So, when you put the AIR and the MBP at the same price point, don't you think it makes sense to go with the MBP?

Or has the AIR surpassed the MBP in hardware features?

You are correct, no point buying any of these new models. You are better off even getting a 14" if you want 16GB of RAM tbh.

Except the 14" Pro still costs $300 more. Sure, *YOU* may think the M1 Pro is worth more than the $300 difference, but other people might have a hard cap at $1699. It doesn't matter how much better it is if you literally can't afford the extra $300.

Have Apple increased the US prices of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro?

They have just raised the prices in the UK and Europe.

The 13 inch MacBook Pro was £1249 / €1299. Now it's £1349 / €1599!

The new MacBook Air has a much bigger price increase. It started at £949 / €949. The new model is £1249 / €1499!

True I understand that, but for us power users who wanted an Air with more than 16GB of RAM, at this point even trying to pick anything between Air or Pro don't make much sense.

Anyways I do believe the old Air will still be the market leader on the Mac since this odd release is quite expensive.

I realize the 14" MBP is the best buy in this group.

But my girlfriend is looking for something more basic

It would probably be the AIR

Well, for pushing and having everyday performance. To push hard often, I'd say look up to the 14 and 16 MBPs

Seeing as how the new 1080p cameras look horrid, I'd stick to the 720p

Wishful thinking Apple refreshed it again to make it closer to the Surface Pro webcam which is still the benchmark to match/beat. Will have to wait for review before discounting it.

If your girlfriend is looking for something basic, why not save some money and go for the M1 MBA?

I believe the M1 MBA will remain to be default choice with the M2 MBA being so expensive.

Because I want to get her the newest models with Magsafe and future-proofed with M2.

I don't mind spending a little bit more for the M2 AIR over the M1 AIR.

My question from the start is what choice do I make when the M2 AIR is the same price as the M2 MBP? And why is that even the case here?
