You're the one who started this thread comparing the M2 MBA to the base model 14" MBP so don't start being offended that you have people "MBP people" stating their opinion the base model 14" MBA @ $1,599 is a better performance value than the M2 MBA.
I wasn't complaining at all. I was just making sure people know where they are because it happens on threads that don't compare models too. If you just make a post on M2 MBA you get a huge number of people talking about the M1 14" MBP and it being better.

The thing that gets me is how mad some people on this thread seem to be. They can't for a minute just accept that two great machines exist for completely different uses that happen to cost the same. They feel the need to spout specs and make anyone who disagrees with their point of view feel inferior. They miss the entire point of use cases and usually don't even own an M2 Air?? Why even bother. Enjoy your superior MBP and let people in the AIR forums enjoy their AIRS. Lol

Here is a thread I started that had nothing to do with comparing the MBP 14" just a warning in the thread that I didn't want it hijacked by such comparisons and guess what happened???

Which is a valid discussion in the MBA forum.

If that's really your position why start a thread which goes against that very sentiment?

Did you read the title of this thread? M2 MacBook Air may actually be the best value?? Again I started with comments to hopefully discourage the same posts about M1 MBP 14" but no matter what you do you get people posting about it.

Valid but super tired and old. Everyone has heard it a billion times already.

I feel like it is Groundhog Day the movie. It is the same argument with the same type of logic over and over while missing the main points.......

But I know the MBP 14" is the best. Why does anyone in their right mind even consider a M2 MacBook Air with it's overclocked M1 and poor value..........Okay. I got it but maybe just for a second consider that there is more to what people value than what you consider is important. I can see both sides of the argument but I don't go onto the MBP sub forums and say why the M2 MBA is superior. It would never even occur to me to do so. Let's say the M2 MBA cost the same and had all the extra features like min led, promotion, better speakers(subjective) and all the rest of it and started at a base with 512gb ssd and 16gb ram for $1200 I would still NOT go in a MBP sub forum and start saying how stupid people are for buying a MBP.. They are completely different computers with different strengths and weaknesses. But for some reason people seem to do that on this MBA sub forum. It is like a bunch of people who feel the need to justify what they purchased knowing a new model will be released soon. It is okay. If you have a MBP 14" it is a great computer not just because of the M1 but also the redesign just like the M2 air is a great computer not just because of the M2 but it's redesign.

Because of people on this thread and many other threads that have nothing to do with a MacBook Pro. It is pretty easy to figure out.
This thread is focused on MBP / MBA comparisons. So no, it's not pretty easy to figure out given you, and M2 MBA advocate, started it. Then you go on to complain that it's occuring.

This is why debating value in a vacuum is stupid. Some people want the best technical specs for the least dollars. Those people will argue the 14" M1 MBP on the recent sale price is the best value. Some people want the thinnest and lightest offering for the least dollars. Those people will argue the M2 MBA is the best value. But they're both right in the context of their own unique priorities.

I completely agree, there is more to value then just specs. The most important part is what is valuable to you as the purchaser of the device. I dont value the offerings of the 14" pro over what the air offers which is better battery life, better portability and the faster single core performance for my basic day to day needs. I dont need a brighter screen, I use it indoors, I dont need louder speakers, I never go past half volume in my air as is lol. But thats just me

There is no wrong choice, people need to just accept that and enjoy their devices

Aside from the faster single core performance which, IMO, isn't really that compelling reason for the target market of an MBA, an M1 MBA sounds like it fits your needs perfectly.

Perhaps by not creating a discussion which goes against this sentiment?

Well I understand where you are coming from but this is no vacuum. It is more like an echo chamber where people whose entire identity is tied to having the best “specs”.

Kind of like some people who buy trucks and then have a pissing contest on who has the most horsepower and options on their truck to people who don’t care and will never use those things. It makes the truck owners feel superior when they are bragging about their 10 mpg truck to a person who owns a subcompact car and gets 40mpg.

Sure your truck is bigger, it can tow, it has more horsepower but I don’t need a truck and MPG is more important to me. They will just keep repeating why subcompacts are stupid.

Maybe they like design aesthetics from 2022 and not 2015? M1 MBA has had the same tired design for years.

Then buy a subcompact and be happy. Don't start discussions debating the merits of a truck versus a subcompact.

This is a very random thing to say. How do you know that he doesn't want the better webcam for instance? Or the better larger display? It's very strange that you seem to think you know what other people need in a MacBook. I don't understand the arrogance.

Perhaps they do but that doesn't change that the M1 MBA would likely be a better value. It accomplishes everything he needs at a lower price.

Better webcam? What, do you mean to say that we're now to consider technical specs? I thought that was frowned upon.

A better webcam is a technical spec? Only if that is the only thing you care about. For normal people it's because you look better when on FaceTime or Zoom. Again, where is the arrogance coming from? Who are you to say why someone wants a better camera?

If you like USB C charging instead of MagSafe and only one thunderbolt port available. If you like an old design with thicker bezels and a dimmer screen and has an old tired design sure it gets everything done the same. Part of owning a Mac is aesthetics and design and a lower price with a poorer experience isn’t always the best choice. If you just want cheap get a Windows laptop or a Chromebook. Lol

We won’t mention the faster chip, lighter weight or better battery life. Lol

Yes, the webcam in the M2 MBA has better specs than the M1. As to whether one looks better with the M2 webcam over the M1 well, maybe technically they do. But the M1 MBA webcam was no slouch. Personally, on the receiving end, I wouldn't know the difference.

As for my arrogance I didn't say he needed a better camera.

Just to stay on the side of accuracy. I don't believe that the M2 MBA has better battery life than the M1 MBA. Everything else was correct LOL.
My bad, might be the slower chip has better battery life. I stand corrected.

Funny how the previous MBA design was advocated by MBA advocates and now they find it disgusting. That said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't find the M1 MBA form factor to be objectionable.

I actually said at the beginning of the thread I never liked the design of the old Intel/M1 air. One of the reasons I never considered it as a viable option. In fact I never liked the wedge shape on any of the older Macs and am so happy that has changed.

I am not a MBA advocate either. I like what fits my use case and am not tied to a particular device and never have been.
