Apple on Friday opened pre-orders for the new MacBook Air with M2 chip through its website and the Apple Store app, and delivery estimates have already slipped for all configurations and color combinations in the United States.

Shipping estimates for all MacBook Air configurations have slipped to July 26 or later, with some custom configurations with upgraded specs shipping as late as August. When pre-orders first began, some configurations were available for delivery as early as July 15.

The new MacBook Air will also be available to purchase at select Apple Store locations around the world starting July 15, but availability will likely be limited to the standard configurations. Pricing for the new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 in the United States. The previous MacBook Air with the M1 chip remains available for $999.

Apple also made its USB-C to MagSafe 3 charging cable available to order in three new colors that match the new MacBook Air. The cable, priced at $49, is currently estimated for delivery between July 15 and July 19 in the United States.

Update: July 15 delivery is no longer available for any M2 MacBook Air configuration. This story has been updated accordingly.

In my country there are only resellers, so no bto/cto models available, thus couldnt care less for delays given that its norm for us to be on long waiting list before even, say, 16 or 24GB versions are made available preconfigured, let alone shipped.

8/256 base version costs 1549€ and 10c 8/512 version goes for 1899€, its nuts. Oddly enough these are shown to be available for delivery in 10 days, at least at the moment.

8/256 for 1549€ and 8/512 for 1899€, what a rip off.

Any casual user in the MacBook Air market should consider the M1 version first since it's $200 cheaper and wicked powerful compared to past (intel) Air configurations. But if you're someone who is concerned about performance then the M1 Pro or Max is still available to you rather than a standard M2. And nowadays with Cloud storage, a large SSD may not even be necessary for most casual users.

That Midnight color, doe.

In the UK when the store came back up today, only the 8GB models were available for July 15th; the 16/24GB models were August 1st onwards.
In the US also. I ordered a “midnight” with 24GB / 2TB nearly immediately and was quoted Aug 2-9. Then as a backup plan and because I’m not yet sure about the color, I ordered a silver one, same config. That was July 26 - Aug 2. I’ll cancel one of them. When I was ordering the midnight one, I clicked around on the different configs to see how the date changed. Any change from default config resulted in Aug 2-9.

And the midnight is still Aug 2-9, two hours later.

Right away, I ordered the base model in Starlight for July 15 delivery - attempted to update the charger from the standard 30w to the dual 35w, but that added a week. 30w standard charger it is...

I ordered the midnight 8/10 core, 16GB RAM and 512GB HD at 5:03am PST and my estimated delivery time is August 2-9. I think the custom configs are just gonna be longer, it's the same with any color.

I ordered the bog standard 8gb/512mb model at 5:05 PST and got a date of July 18.

Trying to work (too) quickly I mistakenly forgot to select the Mag-Safe adapter and instead the order has the USB-2. II called to try to get it switched but told it's not possible without cancelling the order and going to the back of the line, which I didn't want to do. Any ideas about how I might be able to switch this?

I looked at a bunch of BTO options immediately when the Apple Store opened today (8AM EST). All of those enhanced-memory or enhanced-storage configurations were showing early August delivery dates from the beginning. "Now facing shipping delays" is a headline in search of facts. AFACT, Apple anticipated product demand extraordinarily well and is delivering reasonable delivery times for everyone who ordered this morning. That's the real headline that should me on this story, MacRumors.

Ordered in USA right at 5am PST with standard 8/256 Starlight. Delivery date is July 15th. 10 minutes later I was going to buy another for my kid - slipped to July 18-25th. Space Gray and Silver still showing July 15th, even now.
