Not a surprise. What funny is that people want Air to be Pro Mac. People, there is a reason Apple sells Basic/Air Macs and Pro Macs. If you want a Pro features u have to buy MacBook Pro. Don't forget that Air is fanless laptop.
Ok so then why does the M2 Macbook Pro only support 1 display?

How is M series Windows emulation progressing? My SO won't use an external display, and it looks like the M2 machines are nearly identical trading weight for est 2 hr battery but suffering a touch bar. I gave her my 2019 MBP because she has to run Windows software. I bet she would enjoy something that doesn't sound like a helicarrier.

TIL that something I've been doing on sub-$1000 PC laptops for over ten years is now somehow considered a "pro" feature in the Apple world.

LOL at this entire thread.

Apple is acting like they are teetering on bankruptcy but they are sitting on piles of cash. We put out a lot of money when we buy Apple. They can at least allow 2 decent displays and put a decent webcam in their equipment.

I know a name they can call the connector that is going to allow you to hang a phone off the back of a laptop. Duct tape.
Seriously? Name a single bankrupt company that developed their own lines of processors that are competitive in performance and transformative on power consumption. You have been able to upgrade your cameras for years with external cameras, using the iPhone sounds like a neat little trick, but hey, it works, kindof like that detachable camera module that Samsung uses on some displays.

As far as “a lot of money”. Every time I check, the Apple silicon macs are very price competitive to comparably specked windows machines. Ok maybe it is because you have to upgrade so much in the windows world to get to comparative specs

And don’t even go their on ram and SSD pricing, I willingly concede

The 13 inch Pro doesn't support it either. It was supported in the Intel Macs. As people have pointed out, it shouldn't be hard to support lower resolution or refresh to get multiple monitors (as 3rd party drivers already do). Personally, I want to be able to remote into my work machine and use multiple monitors to code. I don't need high-res displays and I shouldn't have to buy a Pro laptop when my computer isn't doing much processing.

We'll now be at least 4 years of no support for multiple external monitors on a consumer-level machine. I was looking forward to upgrading my 2016 Pro, but now I don't know if I can or should.
Saying Pro Mac I mean 14"/16" Mac not an old MacBook Pro with upgraded chip only ... Its like complaining that iPhone SE with new chip doesn't have 120hz.

Wait... the M1 Max support four displays? Really? I thought it was 3.
So it goes:
M#: 1 display
M# Pro: 2 displays
M# Max: 4 displays
M# Ultra: 5 displays

Does Apple not know what the most common multiple display setup is?
M1 Ultra and Max both support 4 displays on the Studios, but 2/3 on the MacBook M1 Pro/Max.

OH Its like saying why iPhone SE has new chip but doesn't support 4k video recording or 120hz pro motion. Saying MacBook Pro I mean (and I guess everybody) 14"/16" MacBook Pro 2021.

Lol at your response. A sub $1000 pc in the windows world is a piece of crap, relatively speaking. After all the upgrades you need to get the performance, screen quality, memory bandwidth, speakers, and not being overwhelmed by thermal throttles, you are way over budget

Now, if you don’t need that, then you should get a cheap chrome book for $400 and just be happy, LOL

No idea why Apple is introducing the iPhone webcam kit. Not a big fan of it. Would have been easier if they just put better cameras inside the 🖥 💻
Because they can’t retrofit all the older computers supported but they can give users an alternative to get a higher res webcam that won’t cost them anything. Why are people being so negative about what is essentially a free upgrade?!

Considering the similarly spec'd Air M2 and the base 14" Pro are only $270 apart, it makes the Pro a no brainer if you need 2 monitors and don't want to cludge a solution. AND you get higher specs, bigger screen, and more ports on the Pro. I'm a bit mystified by the specs and price point. Looks like I'm going 14"Pro.

Not the case at all. There are plenty of sub-$1000 laptops that do fine for the limited amount of work they are expected to do without any major upgrades needed (although, it is ironic you mention upgrades on a thread about Macbooks, but I digress).

Back to the thread at hand here - I was mentioning the one feature people are talking about in this thread. Most PC laptops can do it out of the box. Apple ones can't. It's Apple who you should be voicing your anger at, not me.

If all I needed to do was work on Google docs, watch a few YouTube videos, and browse the web, I certainly would get better value from a Chromebook than a Macbook.

I get it; I get why Apple thinks this is cool, I understand they sell higher end machines. And yet... that's just weak.

Just like it's weak that Apple until this day still does not support MST from DisplayPort spec.

Well. Are you new here? Welcome in the XXI century. Companies want you to spend money on their most expensive products. If you don't like it stick with your sub-$1000 PC.

So far it looks like only one company in particular has been artificially removing features in order to push their customers to the newer, more expensive models. But, all that innovation tho, amiright?

Not at all. Premium Car companies do it for years. Base Mercedes or Audi model will have less features and much worse interior than highest Peugeot or Renault model but you still paying more only for Mercedes or Audi logo.

It's not "weak". It is Apple understanding exactly how loyal their own customer base is and how much BS they can get away with without running the risk of actually losing those customers.
