M3 chip sounds amazing, especially for the laptops, but this is the only good thing about the iMac update. Lame specs especially the base ones, overly priced for what you get and really disappointing to this long time 27" iMac user and fan.

I found it pathetic when they tried to sell the 24-inch as better than the previous 27-inch and they've zoomed in the screen trying to make it big.. for real?!

What is even more pathetic is the screen is not even 24", but 23.5" so they are laying about it, unlike the previous model which they called it 21.5". This generation, they are rounding up to make it sound like a small blow to those considering going from 27" iMac's

Very common in the display industry to round up. Check some 32" displays from other companies and you'll see they are actually 31.5".

In Australia the iMac is now insanely priced IMO. $2,499 for the base model 8/256 with ethernet.
In comparison the Mac mini with the same 8/256 spec is $999.

Thats $1500 for a 24" monitor!

I was all ready to pick up an iMac, but now going to get a mini instead.
Agree...24" display in 2023/24?...Why not at least 27" iMac, Apple?

The iMac should be discontinued altogether. It's an outdated product.
Once the screen has a crack, you have to replace the whole computer unit.
Once the computer unit is outdated or damaged, you have to replace the whole screen along with it, even if it's working perfectly fine.
In times when we should be more economical with our resources, such a product is problematic. Apple should know better, claiming to be a "green" company.

OR they could make the screen detachable and easily replaceable, just as it's possible to do with cell phones.
But if they do, you won't buy a shiny new iMac, will you?

Good god, some of the comments here… getting that burn feeling out of the “barrage of messages that add nothing to the conversation and just makes everything less enjoyable or just a waste of time” (just like my own over here, guilty your honor!). Week after week after month over the years… 😪

But yes, 8GB of RAM, yes 256GB SSD, don’t buy them or at least not in that configuration, or buy the Microsoft or All in one Dells as the example comment above this and enjoy that instead… but no, HAD to leave that repeated to death predictable comments.

Do you know what was my latest iMac? 2020 27”. Do you know how many iMac M1 or now M3 I got? Zero, because they don’t make sense to my needs. What did I upgrade to then? Mac Studio + two studio display, because it made much more sense than sticking to the iMac line. How many lines of text did I spend complaining or having an opinion about that? Zero.

But go ahead, continue making the forums the same tiring and ever declining space.
I agree, it'd be much easier if Apple would just upgrade their base configurations to give people no reason to complain, instead of leaving the amount of RAM the same as in an iMac model from 2013.
There's no option to upgrade the RAM or internal storage yourself later, so these are not minor annoyances, they are contrived, cynical moves by Apple that grossly inflate the cost of ownership. That's why people come on forums and complain about it, as it annoys a large portion of their existing customer base and is a petty, unnecessary and (ultimately) counter productive practice from Apple.
That you decided to change you setup from an iMac is great.
However, the base level 2020 27" iMac started at $1799. The system you replaced it with started at $1999 plus you'll have had the expense of the two 5K monitors and keyboard and mouse, so it's not a like for like replacement and as such is an upgrade that would simply not be an option for many others.
If you don't wish to read people's exasperation at Apple shipping iMacs with the same amount of RAM as they did a decade ago, stop reading Apple related forums a day after they (again) release a new iMac and leave the base options the same, or perhaps have some empathy for the many who are disappointed by this continuing in 2023, especially when the cost of upgrading the RAM and internal storage at the point of purchase (which is when these upgrades must be done) is extortionate.
Apple charge $200 if you wish to upgrade to 16GB RAM and a whopping $400 to upgrade to 1TB of storage when a 4TB NVME cost circa $50. The people hanging around Mac Rumors commenting are pre existing Apple customers. If you are making them unhappy on mass, then the likelihood is you are getting something wrong.

Apple's 24-inch iMac has been updated with the new M3 chip that offers notable speed improvements over the prior M1, but as it has not been refreshed since 2021, there are also a few other new features.

iMac-M3-Blue-Feature.jpg

The machine's design has not been updated, and it comes in the same colors, but the more advanced M3 chip allows the 24-inch iMac to be outfitted with up to 24GB Unified Memory, up from the 16GB maximum in the M1 version.

Apple has also added Wi-Fi 6E support to allow the iMac to connect to 6GHz networks, and it supports the Bluetooth 5.3 protocol for improved connectivity and range.

The M3 iMac still comes in two-port and four-port varieties with the latter featuring an extra two USB 3 ports. The two-port model has an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, while the four-port model has an 8-core GPU and 10-core GPU. The version with more ports also supports up to 2TB of storage, while the two-port model is limited to 1TB.

Pricing on the M3 iMac starts at $1,299 for the two Thunderbolt port model, while the model with two Thunderbolt ports and two USB 3 ports is priced starting at $1,499. Apple is accepting orders today, with the new machines set to arrive to customers next week.

With all the horsepower improvements in an M3 “laptop”, the prevailing ‘glue’ between the laptop and everything else is WiFi 6E at a time when every major network router manufacturer has WiFi 7 systems on the market. I expected at a minimum WiFi 7 would have been offered on Max M3 models. And while many will say this isnt a big deal in 2023, they’re right. But as internet providers are currently starting to push out speeds at 2, 5 and 10Gbps, that ‘glue’ may start to feel a bit weak around late 2024 when I’m sure Apple will just so happen to launch WiFi 7 models, prompting many to replace a perfectly good laptop just for a upgrade in WiFi. Nice money grab Apple.

As a shareholder I was quite pleased with last night's releases. Nice to see Tim provide compelling reasons to get folks into their stores this holiday season for some Mac shopping! $$$! Particularly nice to see Apple Silicon 24" iMac get some M3 love, that's been long-overdue!

I'll be cheering on for >27" XDR iMac in the meantime! :)

This is perfect to replace my old Late 2013. Im recently retired at 62. I am NOT doing anything stressful like WORK anymore LOL. Basic stuff and fun stuff for me. So for me it’s perfect!

LOL, 2 USB, why not 8? 24" screen, no thanks, not doing a massive downgrade after a decade of 27" 5k. Zero innovation. Who cares if an iMac is thin? How stupid! Still Massive bezels for no reason other than wanting to make it thin. I guess my 2019 iMac will stay with me a few more years. 8GB RAM?!?!? Is it 2013 in Cupertino? My 2014 iMac had 32GB. Up to 24? LOL. So you can surf the internet, check email, and little else. 256GB of storage? Is it 2006? And you can pay a fortune for a measly 2TB. I had 3.1 in my iMac a decade ago. Should be 8TB minimum. So $2700 for a low end computer when all the specs are maxed out.
Yeah, and it doesn't even have a floppy drive.

I know Mac is basically good for browsing only, majority of software runs only on x86 but jeeez who's buying computer with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD for over 2000€ ? What are you doing with it besides browsing ?
That base model is still $1,299 USD
Idea, what if they increased minimum memory instead of maximum memory.
I would have really loved 12GB RAM as the base with an option to upgrade to 24GB. Skip the 16GB option.

It’s exactly the same scenario with a MacBook. Quit whining about the AIO concept. Enough already.

Disappointing. But still better than no refresh.

Weird that the accessories are still not USB-C.

I guess since the Magic Keyboard and Mouse come in their own little boxes, Apple could swap them out for USB-C ones once the EU regulations take effect.

Seems odd they wouldn't change them now. Then again, there's still over a year until they can't be sold (in the EU) anymore.
