Hi, I am new here but cannot get an answer from Apple...

So…

It turns out that suddenly, on a MAC, you CANNOT load a bluray anymore. Not ever to WATCH.

This is for any Mac on their latest M1-4 w/ Silicon. I can open DVD’s with it, but suddenly, NO MORE ON A MAC. I am sorry I kept emailing the 3rd party software but this is NEW information I am very upset with. BUT BLURAYS MAKE IT crash AND RESTART. I HAVE AN EXTERNAL DVD/BLURAY/CD CONNECTION.

Have you heard of this ever or is it new for you too?

I have many Blu-ray’s I have converted TO AN .mp4 with the software with ZERO issues. They are for my Apple TV collection.

Now...NOPE NOPE

If you hear anything about this or have a solution, I’d appreciate it.

Thank you,
Todd Lampe

I already have an extra drive. Before I upgraded to this M4 Mac I was able to put a Blu-ray in and have a third-party software easyfab extracted and make an M4 out of it. I am on sequoia and don't want to update to the latest software yet because I already tried it and it was even worse experience than what I'm going through right now. I'm on a M4 iMac.

This is simply false.

To play or extract the video, you need third party software that works on Apple Silicon. I don't bother trying to extract Blu-ray video so I don't know the status of the software in that space is like these days, but playback works fine on Apple Silicon with third party software packages.

If your particular Blu-ray ripping/transcoding software isn't compatible with Apple Silicon, then you'll have to find new software.

BTW, it's MP4, not M4. If you say M4 here, people will (rightly) get very confused.

My computer is an M4. This is not truly false. Before I got the M4 Matt I was able to make an MP4 of a Blu-ray without an issue. Now suddenly on the new MaCS in won't work. Yes DVDs are fine that's not a problem. I have a third-party software

Sounds like you need to update your third-party software.

I use an LG BluRay drive with MakeMKV and Handbrake to rip BluRay movies on my M4 Mac mini Plex server and it works like a charm. The M4 is not the root of your issue.
