I don’t think it’ll be as small as the ATV.

Remember when they introduced the iPod Mini? People lost their minds because it was 80% of the price of a regular iPod but had only 20% of the storage. But it was small! Turned out Apple knew that the vast majority of iPod owners used about 1GB, enough for a few hundred songs, so didn’t care about the “lack” of storage.

I bet they believe the same about the Mac Mini—that most people will plug one thing in: a monitor. Their keyboard and mouse will be wireless and they’ll be happy.

Great it be smaller and less ports although $ increase. Like the last iMac upgrade.

I am still on a intel iMac 27" as been waiting 27" iMac which looks to not be coming
Looked at current Mac Mini and add a screen.
8gb soldered RAM is crap
256gb SSD a joke.
To go from 8/256 to 24/1TB is extra US$800 or 16/512gb $400.
Honestly 8gb ram over half is used by the OS.
Need at least 16GB.. Right now have 4 tabs on Safari 2.5gb memory gone
Prob could run a external SSD.. Although honestly again a joke.

Apple instead of trying to make things smaller all the time and colors :) .
What about think of modular.. You know a RAM slot a SSD slot.
My old white MacBook I still use for some old apps.. I could easily update the Hard Drive and RAM.

Typing this on an M2 Pro mini I'm still entirely delighted with. It's my fourth mini, so I'm pretty much used to the form factor. Thinner I don't mind. But don't adjust the horizontal, don't adjust the vertical.

Crazy to think that the perceived performance / user-experience of this TINY Mac will be pretty much on-par with the M4 Mac Pro in a massive tower (unless they redesign that too).

Also crazy to think that the tiny little AppleTV-sized Mac mini could cost a few thousand dollars all kitted out, and fits in the palm of your hand. I guess that's not special any more with iPhones and tablets costing that much. Still, seems crazy to pay so much when the bill of materials is likely not that high.

3) As a sales angle, it puts additional pressure on current M-mini owners to upgrade, by making current model look "large and clunky"
YES!!
I believe it is all about marketing & sales. Might even try be poking at 27” iMac holdouts (combined with a Mac Studio Display) especially it [at least a variant] could be powered/interconnect via USB-C like a MacBook.

“It worked with the new iPad Pro” I can just imagine that mantra from a sales meeting filled with ‘marketing's weenies’.

Time to replace my 2018 Mini and get rid of Intel.
Hopefully it will work better than my current Mini, especially online. Facebook on safari is torture

Not sure how powerful of a Mac mini could be powered by the Apple 140w usb c pd charger if that’s what you mean. Would make it very compact for sure but doubt it could keep up with a power draw from m4 pro.

I'll bet there will be a $3K model, by the time all the whistles and buzzers are added.

I'd recommend loss insurance for when it disappears.

“Essentially an iPad Pro in a small box?”

I mean, if we ignore the fact that the entire purpose of an iPad is to let you be mobile with a screen, then sure! It has the same processor and the same number of ubiquitous ports on everything out there.

Totally like an iPad Pro.

I'd love it if you could power this little machine through the usb-c-port on a monitor, like many people do with their MacBooks.
What a great idea :) that would fit really well with the portability of a smaller Mac mini. Almost makes me wish they build it was a small internal battery so you could sleep it and effectively hot-swap monitors

I say bring it back as 'Mac: M4 Cube.'

Remember...Power Mac G4 Cube??

It's a desktop mac, stop trying to shrink it and make it smaller. Give it enough size, add a decent heatsink, put a fan in it. So it can run at full capacity without throttling and have a long life. Who cares about the size for a desktop mac! so stupid apple.. I thought we are done with the jony-***-everything-just-make-it-small-thin era...
