How much of a difference will it be than an M3? If it doesn't pack TB 5, there's almost no reason to purchase this one over current gen.

If it does have TB 5, best believe a new Apple display with high refresh rate and HDR will be available given the output, and soon, as Apple has used a least common denominator approach to monitor compatibility in 2018/19, when the MacBook Airs and Minis started supporting 5 and 6K displays.

If Apple is going to launch a display with newer technology, all of its machines will run on it.

But the M4 Mini (non-Pro) shipped with TB 4, so probably not.

It won’t have TB5. M4 doesn’t support it. You have to have M4 Pro to support TB5.

M4 supports two external displays with the lid open (three displays total). M3 requires the lid to be closed to support two external monitors. This, actually, makes a big difference for those who use the built-in keyboard and trackpad and need two external displays.

They are probably not targeting M3 owners with this, although it'll most likely be 20% faster in many categories and there might be other small improvements. They have a good cycle now, one that allows people to upgrade from any stage in ownership, from those who have ancient machines to those with an M1 who want a big boost. Even those who have an M2 will get a good boost. If this offered 32GB RAM, it would really be appealing, but it would also be closing in on low-end M3 models, so I'd be surprised, although I did see one rumor that predicted it.

With the base RAM now 16GB, it would be pretty odd if the only RAM upgrade offered was to 24GB.

Should be 20% to 25% faster based on M4.
And 2x on the neural.

Its been four years screen dents during manufacturing when are they gonna fix this. People really need to inspect their units and return them showing them a signal not to accept flaws in their screens. These QC does not happen on much cheaper laptops.
Dude, every post of yours is a bash against Apple, why are you even here? Seriously…. Why? Also I work in IT and we buy 100’s of Mac’s per year. Not a single issue of screen dents.

Does that matter to Air users? Will word and Chrome run faster?
YES IT DOES DUDE.

It might not affect word usage a lot since this doesn't requires a lot but some website might require performances and the m4 air will be better to handle this.

MacBook Air users aren't only word and chrome users... they also do other things like some video editing (YES a lot of people does this sometimes) and it could be other things like games.

Neural engine helps with Apple intelligence !! When you create images, emojis, ask to the new siri (coming with 15.5 maybe) or even using writing tools and more... The results are going to appear FASTER.

So yes CPU, GPU or Neural engine... all matters but ok I agree not everyone might need this extra performances but why not !

Word no. It'll load a touch faster perhaps but that's pretty much it. Chrome can be intensive depending what your browser is doing. That's a bit more of a "how long is a piece of string" question, but you're far more likely see benefits in Chrome than Word, generally.

Good point - Apple Intelligence writing tools when executed locally will run faster too.

Was expecting it to be have been launched by now. Guess it will come in the next two weeks. Will be nice if there is a new colour option. Not expecting much to change with the new M4 Air.

Anyone think anything other than chipset going to be different on it from M3? E.g a port on the right side, c1 modem, or new color?
Additional port on the right side is the only other thing I’m expecting. The C-series chips I think will need to mature a little bit more before they bring them to their laptops. New colors, or color, would be cool.

Apple has become boring. Where is the excitement? Where's the color and fun? Boring expected incremental updates year after year. Tim's legacy. iPhone 16e is such a Tim product.
I’ll be honest, I’m very happy with the overall of their product line. I think their current design on everything is the best and honestly don’t want it to change. Only things I would like to see them add/bring back is a larger iMac Pro and the 12 inch MacBook as a cheaper laptop. And it would be nice if they could make the existence of the Mac Pro make sense. But really I’m perfectly fine with incremental updates, their product line is super solid.

That is precisely why there is a long gap between the two product releases. Most people don’t need the MBP but buy it anyway because they are fed up waiting for the MBA.
I'm a Fanboy but like to add a bit of common sense to my reasoning. Since the M1, it just doesn't seem to make logical sense anymore from a sales perspective to stagger different models. The M4 sees Apple Silicon reach maturity and I think it's now time for the entire line-up - Air / Pro / Mini / iMac / Studio / even Pro - to be released at the same time each year so people can make informed decisions. We don't even know if they'll be an M5-base ahead of a M4-Ultra release and that's just nonsense.

Well, unless you live in retrograde state, Apple devices can still be used to access very exciting sites. And even if you do, VPNs are well supported by Apple ecosystem :p:p
