However, since the cost of the M2 MBA is so low and the chip is still very good and it is likely that the new Air models will be basically the same as M2 models except for the chip and most air users don't need a lot of horsepower and are cost conscious I am not sure the M4 air's will sell as fast except with loyal Apple customers.

No doubt, the M2 is a very capable chip. But I think the M4 is significant enough of a jump in speed that these M4 Airs will fly off the shelves. The base M4 even outperforms a M2 Pro in some tests.

You only need to look how well the M4 Mac mini was received. This MBA is essentially the same but in a laptop form.

Mark Gurman, said last night (February 11) in a tweet.

"New iPhone SE is still imminent and should be announced by next week when the company is holding product briefings. Tomorrow, there’s a smaller announcement (probably the health study). For Friday, Apple Vision Pro reps are reaching out to press about an announcement to come. M4 MacBook Air within weeks."

My guess is M4 Macbook Air will be released next week (still within weeks) when Apple is holding product briefings. My guess is Tuesday (2/18) - iPhone SE, Wednesday (2/19) - iPad Air, Thursday (2/20) M4 MacBook Air. Any order, really, that is just a guess. Then hold small hands-on media events like they did last year.

Okay, Tim Cook's tweet kind of confirms it. I think we are getting the iPhone SE 4, Macbook Air M4 and updated iPad Air next week on the 19th.

The iPhone SE 4 will be the star of the show but updating the Macbook Air and iPad Air in one event makes sense. This way, the hands-on for the media is a slew of products. They are all consumer-level products; bundling them together in one focused event and launch makes sense!

I’m unclear if this is a press event or will just be an online announcement?

If it is a press event it would make sense to announce more than just one product, but ‘newest member to the family’ indicates only one announcement IMO, the iPhone

hope I’m wrong!

Very strange, when you watch the logo it appears to be slightly recessed, more like a Macbook. Has Apple ever considered the iPhone, a family? I know they have considered Mac's family. Plus that Wallpapr screams Mac, not iPhone. Could be wrong though.

The "newest member to the family" doesn't imply the MacBook Air. We've had the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air for awhile now. Unless it refers to a smaller 11- or 12-inch variant (which would be awesome!), there are no cumulative rumors that this is happening. My interpretation of this turn of phrase references an in-house built cellular modem that would be the newest member of the Apple silicon family. And there are strong rumors that Apple has been working on creating its own cellular chips, so we shall see... Maybe it also goes into the new MacBook Airs too? (Probably not)

How do we expect the M4 chip to perform in the 15' Air compared to in the 14' MBP?
We don't. Only Apple knows. I suspect the performance is comparable until the load gets heavy. The Air will have to throttle to keep CPU temperatures down as there is no fan (that we know of). The MBP has a fan to help cool the CPU.

Unless your needs are heavy use, primarily video and simulation programs, the Air will probably perform really well. My M2 Air performed well, I suspect the M4 Air will exceed that performance.

Just guessing on my part as only Apple knows for certain.

Since "member" is singular, I have less than 10% confidence of the M4 Air next week. Not getting my hopes up because I will be a first-day buyer.

I think Apples main focus is the new member of the family (iPhone SE 4) but if they have a presser with hands on, would be logical to think they would have the updated iPad's and M4 Macbook Air. They had a presser event last year for the M3 Macbook Air as well, I remember on March 4th.

The new iPhone SE 4 is a very tempting secondary phone for me. I have an s24u anbd I love it but it would be nice to use an iPhone again. I am just not willing to pay so much for an iPhone while my s24u is so much better in my personal opinion than any iPhone right now.

A M4 MBA would be nice but my M2 MBA is doing just fine so I am going to wait for at least another year. Heck, I might buy a M4 MBP once the M5 is released and get a good discount????
