They said "Pro version".

An M4 Pro Mac mini with a similar config is either £1,399 for 24 GiB RAM, or £1,799 for 48. From that, the Studio offers less RAM, but more CPU cores, a much faster GPU, more ports, and 10 GigE, for £300.

And perhaps critically, the Studio has more thermal headroom.

If you find yourself needing that much RAM, odds are you want at least the M4 Pro.

In that case, the M4 Pro Mac mini may indeed be the sweet spot.
I stand corrected.... I would still probably choose more RAM than CPU cores, but i might be wrong. The thermal regulation is important though as well as the GPU... difficult decision....

Since we are speaking about this when is the mac studio due to be upgraded? They still sell versions with M3 Ultra, i guess there wont be an M4 ultra and will go straight to M5?

If the GPU is important to you, get the Studio.

The current Studio is only four months old.

The M3 Ultra is a bit of an oddity, yes. I would indeed imagine the next Mac Studio comes with a M5 Max and M5 Ultra options.

Perhaps they want to settle on a schedule where the Ultra variant only gets updated every two generations. The higher-end you go, 1) the higher the design costs, and 2) the lower the sales (as it's overall more niche).

I sprung for the M1 11” iPad Pro 1TB so I’ve got 16gb already. I forget about that most of the time, but I did it because I had the money then and knew it would last a longggggg time before it felt “slow” and wonky (hey, I’m was a 1st gen Air owner, I’m sensitive 🤣). The biggest problem is I hate the size and regret downsizing from my 12.9. Gah. Now I’m stuck for a longggggg time. But anyone wanting more ram can probably find one “cheap” on the used market. I’ll probably go to the bigger iPad Air when I upgrade, maybe next year.

But I am getting a Mini this month, and trying not to have FOMO on buying it right before a M5 update. It doesn’t seem like there are mani complaints about it as a 1st product, so that helps. Its sales tax free month, so that is an extra 7% savings. 15% of the money is stock match at work, so look at me save!! I’m torn though because I need a curved monitor for work (eye issues - I’ve got the wide non curved to compare), so I feel like I should buy that first. Ugh.Maybe I should go impulse buy a monitor instead of sleeping more…..

Anyway, new devices, woohoo!!!!!

I'm particularly curious about how the new iPad will look with thinner bezels. There are always people who initially oppose such changes, but they tend to quiet down once the new design is actually released. For me, the appearance of my gadgets is just as important as their features. I really like the thin bezels on the iPhone, for example, so I'm all for it coming to the iPad. As long as the price point with the OLED screen is reasonable, I'm on board.
I miss bigger bezels, so much easier to hold without stray input. Another reason I’d probably downgrade to an air next round. Thankfully most of the time my vision is jacked up and I can’t tell any other differences. Saves money on upgrades 😂

So for me, I’m officially moved to the usability vs aesthetics camp. Sigh… I’m old…..

While I know you've experienced both Air and Pro iPads, think long and hard about what it's like to go back to a lack of Face I.D. Having the thing wake up and recognize you, input log in credentials and authorizations smoothly and easily without having to type in a 6 digit code...it may sound minor but the impact on user experience adds up. My 11" Pro is a 2022 M2 series so I haven't used an OLED iPad to gauge how much that matters.

True… there is that. But my darn finger is over the camera most of the time due to these narrow bezels 😜

I’ve owned ipad 1, the Air 1, the gen 2 12.9 and then this stupid 11 (2 kids have the 8gb m1 11). Plus a mini 4 to use for remote work at my VA job for awhile, but it was never the heavy use machine.

I think I can survive with the Touch ID on the button, my finger is always on the camera so I use the code a lot. Now if it was my phone? I’d be a hot mess without face id. But I might get a ipad Mini instead - I gave mine do my oldest kiddo and I miss it greatly. I could carry that when I leave the house instead of my kindle paperwhite.

I dunno. Who knows what will be out there when I finally get around to buying. I’m patient apparently. Today I almost bought the curved monitor instead of the Mac mini - my eyes were fighting me while working. 🤷🏻‍♀️
