The ugly iTunes 10 inspired icon and missing title bar irritate me. It looks so empty. Not clean, just empty.

Especially with the way the icons end up lining up. The window lights, search bar, and back forward button are the same size. They just don't work with the centered icons with text. The back and forward buttons don't have text, while the other icons do which is confusing as normally you have a choice between icons, text, and icons with text, not some odd combination of the two choices.

Also the window lights are really small icons, next to small back/forward buttons, next to regular sized buttons all on the same line! What is this madness?

Wasnt there some terminal command that changed the new itunes UI back to normal? Wouldn't that work here?

Timemachine??

Exactly. I have all my applications on the same SATA drive as my media, with "Time Machine" backups. I keep all my electronic receipts in my email, in the cloud, and a one sheet copy of any information on purchases. Worst case scenario if both my media and "Time Machine" drives fail, I simply download the applications (I've done this for a few).

All the complaining about applications becoming wireless data is no different than the naysayers when digital music began replacing CD media. Eventually it will become commonplace and physical media will fall to the wayside as did CD media.

Yeah that makes a whole lot of sense, now doesn't it? :D

Does your Mac have exactly the same hardware and software set up as all the other Macs out there?

A lot of people are having this problem so the fact that some people's systems are working properly doesn't prove that there isn't a bug with the MAS.

that's not how things work. The iTunes terminal command was just to switch a plist preference, a preference likely left from when the new iTunes style was being developed. The Mac application store likely has no such option.

PS: If you’re a current customer, there’s no way to convert a previous purchase into a Mac App Store purchase — that requires a re-buy. But remember, what you have now will continue to work just fine.

It's understandable, but that is a let down for me. Personally I would enjoy the comfort of only needing to browse to the "purchased" page to potentially re-install apps on a new Mac. Setting problems with illegally downloaded serial codes aside: I honestly I don't really see why I shouldn't be able to go through some sort of verification process to map them to my AppleID and integrate my quite legally obtained licenses and merge them into the Mac App Store.

This is terrible, and frustrating. I don't plan on re-buying MindNode Pro, and a few apps, and future apps.. just so i can get the features Apple said i would have anyway.
If i have to re-buy the apps which i already have then the Mac App Store is completely useless. Apple should find a way for the Mac App Store to integrate apps on the store which i already have.
Forcing us to re-buy to have these features is a rip off

I don't understand how you are "ripped off". You got what YOU payed for when you bought your App. There was no free future upgrade with your purchase was there? Just because people can buy an App that has been improved or enhanced since your purchase doesn't mean you have been ripped off. They could update the physical media product too only a couple of months after your purchase of a physical media product. Doesn't mean you are ripped off just because they don't send you a free copy of the latest version. The product you feel "ripped off" over is still the same product it was when you purchased it, isn't it. Or did Apple sneak in and delete some of the features you had purchased originally? If so, THEN you are being ripped off. But I bet they haven't ripped off any of the product you originally purchased.

You're right notabadname, "ripped off" probably wasn't the best word to use (due to my frustration at that moment). But, I just feel that re-buying all the apps which i have that are in the App Store would defeat the purpose of the store, and its pretty frustrating. I'm hoping that Apple finds a way to incorporate already bought apps with future and current Mac App Store ones.

Let's say I have purchased 100 apps from the Mac App store. Then I want to do a fresh install of my OS. Can I re-download them from the App store for free? Can I see a list of what items I've purchased?

This is an assumption but on the "Purchases" tab, each app has a greyed out Installed button next to it. When you refresh your OS and launch the App store, once logged in, your purchases will appear here, with an install button next to each.

Maxed out MBA 13" here. App Store sees installed iLife '11, Rapid Weaver 5, Comic Life 2, however it does not recognize installed iWork '09 and Pixelmator.

I've got iWork '09 installed, and the App Store sees Pages, Numbers, and Keynote as being installed. If you missed the latest update, it might not be counted?

Hmm, strange to see that non-US users (well, UK ones at least) are getting a better deal on Aperture (and other products?)

US pricing: $199 retail, $79.99 MAS, so 40%
UK pricing: £173 retail, £44.95 MAS, so 26%

Like others, my iLife '09 doesn't show as purchased so, as others have suggested, it will only show the latest versions as purchased. Seems to me like Apple have missed a trick here. If they detected iLife/iWork '09 it/they would then appear as available updates - kind of nagging you to upgrade ;)

So don't re-buy the apps. The purpose of the App store is not to bring all your old apps into the fold - it's to be a convenient and easy way to discover and purchase new software. This is such a non-issue.

What exactly would be the point of rebuying applications?

iWork '09 Trial version

Recognizes everything from my iLife '11 but nothing from iWork '09. Doh!

If you downloaded iWork as I did (and bought it online) you will find this in the preference file

"/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.Installer.plist" :

InstallMode : Trial

Change it to "Retail", save it and iWork '09 will be recognized by MAS...

Thanks for this. That worked perfectly.

Using what software....???

I tried using text edit and overwrote the original file and when i try to open any iwork app it shows a dialogue box saying that files needed to run iwork are missing....!

I restored the original .plist file and iwork opens fine but still isnt recognized as installed in App store.

I used Pref Setter. plist files are not text files.
