Do you think you could buy MS Word in the App store? That would be pretty sweet too.

I was just giving the iLife update the
thumbs down to my wife last night (no
iWeb update = boo!), but I'd maybe pay
$9.99 for iPhoto standalone.

My worry is, what happens when your drive crashes or you want to do a clean reinstall/upgrade? Would the fact that you are the proud owner live in the cloud/your account, and allow you to redownload or are you screwed because you didn't use Time Machine?

Didn't SJ say you could install them on all your Macs? So, I am guessing it will work like iPhone store, when you try to buy an app you already own it asks you if you want to redownload it.

But it only does that because you have a backup on your HD. If your drive died, I don't think it would know you had that app.

The only one I use on a regular basis is Iphoto. I would pay $20 for just that program long before I fork out $49 for the entire package.

I think apple would be smart to keep both pricing structures.

No it doesn't. If you delete an app off your phone, then on your phone go in to the app store and try to rebuy it, it will not let you. It will ask if you want to redownload it. Apple knows what you have bought.

No, I've re-downloaded many things on iPhone that haven't been backed up. It checks your Apple account to see if you've purchased an item.

... There is no need to buy more than iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band from the store since iWeb and iDVD are unchanged. So the pricing looks right even for single system use....

^ Are we sure that iWeb and iDVD are unchanged? My impression from the Keynote was that they had updated the entire suite but we're just showing off iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand (i.e. not enough time/interest to show everything off). Willing to be proved wrong.

Awesome news.

I wanted the upgrades to garageband, but 50 bucks was a little much to spend for only that...

Good move apple.

Not enough time?

With all the time that was wasted going step-by-step through stupid iPhoto ****?

If they had updated iWeb and iDvd, they'd at least have mentioned it.

I'm not surprised by this move since they didn't bundle the iWork Apps for the iPad; plus Steve said that they're trying to incorporate things that they've learned from the iPhone and iPad.

"What's in the Box: DVD containing iPhoto '11, iMovie '11, GarageBand '11, iWeb (v3.0.2), iDVD (v7.1)"

Another BIG point here is that they will see what customers are using the most of. This will help them in knowing customer A uses iPhoto and iMovie and B uses Garageband only. It will help with development within :apple:

Why put so much effort into something nobody is using. If nobody is using it why? Time to revamp it!:D

Good point. There might have been a lot (doubt it though) of people using iWeb but since it wasn't updated Apple might be missing out on a good business opportunity, unless they already have other ways to know who's using their software.

Speaking of apps

This is a little off topic, but at looking at the 10.7 teaser page there is posted an image of nested folders in launch pad. They show the iWork suite, but with it they have Bento. I wonder if Filemaker is going to be brought back under Apple so that they can have a whole package with a database program, so they can answer the MS Office suite on Windows, which has Access.

Purely speculation, but it would make sense.

I only really need pages.
Switched from iPhoto to Aperture, then Aperture to Lightroom.
Don't mess around with music.
Have an older copy of Final Cut for some Movie editing.
Don't do anything with DVD's, DropBox & Flash Drives all the way.
iWeb? I use Dreamweaver, Hand-coding & more frequently, Wordpress.

I like this idea! :apple:

Apple should just ****-can iWeb if they're not going to bother updating it over two cycles.

It's pathetic compared to the other apps in the package.

My question about the Mac App Store: what happens if your Mac crashes or something else & you have to reinstall? How does that work? Does it keep track of what you've purchased & lets you download/reinstall for free? If so, is there a limit to how many times that happens?

Looks like I need to buy iPhoto just to get full functionality of the new Aperture 3.1 (clever tie-in there, Apple!).

It does not indicate anything.

Ok. Maybe people can update old iLife applications via Mac App Store. And maybe even individually. Or maybe not.

This article presumes that iLife is no longer given free on every Mac. What did uncle Stevie just say!

Free with every new Mac!!!

You can download unlimited times.
