I just activated my beta and while interesting their app lit is not compelling. The problem such a subscription model has is growing the app base while keeping the cost affordable. A large app base means users are more likely to find apps they use regularly and some they may use sporadically with the added benefit of always having he latest version all at a low monthly costs. Not for everyone, but it can be a good choice for some.

From a developer's viewpoint, however, as the app base grows their share of the subscription fees goes down unless the new apps attract enough new subscribers to make up for a smaller slice of the pie by growing the pie. This may work as the subscriber base grows but one growth levels off there isn't enough added revenue from new subscribers to make make up for ether diluted share of the subscription revenue. There has to be some sweet spot that gives users enough choice to make them subscribe while still keeping the developer's cut large enough to make staying with the program worthwhile.

One potential bright spot for developers is if they can convert subscribers to purchasers if and when the subscriber cancels their subscription. The service essentially becomes a free / low cost trial for users.
