I’ve tried this and done nothing plus I don’t think I should turn it off as it was doing a system update after I tried to reinstall the os through command s in root but it’s just a white screen

Pre Retina 15" MBP, model number is on the base. You may have to restore from a USB drive is the HDD has corrupted. without the model or OS version makes helping far more difficult as some MBP's have specific issues as has OS X evolved over the years.

if on the original hard drive you have to be patient with theses older Mac's when updating the system and better to be selective of which version of OS X to run.

Is a Late 2011 15" MBP. This model suffers a lot of issues with the Radeon dGPU, equally as it's booting and the display is working looks to be ok. you'll need to shut it down and try to boot into recovery or single user to see if you can run disk utility and apply first aid. If not, may be best to download OS X 10.12 or 10.13 from Apple and install from a USB Flash drive.

When it goes onto internet mode and I load a disk nothing comes up anymore

Had the dGPU failed the MBP likely wont boot or the display would be scrambled. In this case hopefully a SW or drive problem.

2011 15" MBP needs adequate cooling (raise the rear) and usage of the Radeon dGPU should be reduced as much as reasonably possible. Choice of OS X version matters as SW is needed to stop the Radeon dGPU kicking in. Go too high with OS versions and I believe that you will not have that capability.

My own stock 2011 15" remains to run (10.13.6), equally I'm mindful of it's hardware shortcomings and it's potential for random failure.

Links for OS X Sierra & High Sierra (go to section 4)

Without getting into Safe Mode or Recovery (if exists) a bootable USB drive is the path I would take, as need to look at the internal drive with Disk Utility and or replace the OS if needed.

I had a late 2011 15" with a failed Radeon.

With an encrypted drive, I was presented with the log in screen. Once I entered my password, I would see the progress bar. When the bar got about half way, the entire screen turned white and I could not see anything on the screen. I had the GPU replaced and it's been fine for years.

Th OP's GPU may be in a different state than mine which is why the login screen appears with or without encryption.

My 2011 has been OK, admittedly I decrypted the drive as it has no data of significance. TBH is difficult without knowing the OS version as OSX has changed significantly since 10.8.

If the OP can create a recovery USB should be able to boot off that and the status of the dGPU will be clearer as I agree the Radeon related failures are not always black & white.

My 2011 remains original, I'm amazed it still runs, given I passed it on in 2013, did the rounds of the family, used for all in sundry up to and including gaming. Sat dead for over a year after returning to me and now after removing multiple users and cleaning up the SW image it runs better than it ever did, equally under no illusion's...
