I just got the new mini and found that too bad there's still no microphone in it so cannot use Siri/ dictation. And the power LED for some reason does not seem to blink during sleep. And it does not chime when boot up, which is good.

Yes those are letdown for me as well. Not so huge that I will not buy Mac Mini because of that, but still, it kinda sucks.

Would have been so nice to have the onboard microphone. And, I will surely miss the boot up chime. :(

Does it stay on solid or go off? Not sure why Apple would suddenly ignore 18 years of established behavior (power light pulse doing sleep), unless it's a bug.
It seems to stay on solid all the time.

If they'd put a mike in, I'd just have had to figure a way to disable it.
When I want a mike or camera, I plug one in. It's easy.

People should carefully consider the implications of potentially surrendering the content of your conversations to ad companies.

Tim Cook has started to beat the privacy drum since Amazon and Google are outperforming Siri in data collection and psychographic targeting.

I don't think that Mac Minis have ever had a microphone.
Not part of the "design paradigm".

An inexpensive USB mic would serve basic needs...

I'm glad there is no microphone. No one will be able to use my computer to listen what is happening in the room.

They never had mics. Desktops don’t have mics. Inb4 well, 2amd 1s have mics. I’m talking about Mac mini and windows desktops.

I -prefer- no mic and no camera.
Don't have to worry about the iPhone mic, either -- don't have an iPhone!

Actually Intel added dual mics to the front of their NUCs. I thought it would be a good idea for adding 'Hey Siri" support, but I don't think that feature has that priority inside Apple.

I use a Logitech USB mic and it works great.
