I wanted to check in on this as the last dedicated thread was in 2014. I have a 27" 2560x1440 monitor that supports that resolution over Displayport and HDMI. I've been able to connect my wife's 13" Late-2013 rMBP using HDMI to the monitor and 2560x1440 works great! No futzing with SwitchresX or anything, it just works.

Are the Mac Mini computers that use Intel Iris graphics also able to do the same thing, or do you need to patch the HDMI output in OS X so it allows for 350 MHz bandwidth availability? Or is that not an option either?

I've got a mini Displayport-HDMI adapter as a fallback that works fine on my Mac Pro. However, the monitor doesn't like to wake up unless I press a button on it after it has gone to sleep, which I think is an issue with the adapter. I'd prefer to just do straight HDMI. Thanks in advance.

Whoops, I skimmed that thread and just saw all the posts talking about displayport, now I see a confirmation about it working on a Mac Mini as well. Thanks for the link!

As a late follow-up, I was able to connect over HDMI to my XB271HU monitor at 2560x1440 resolution to a late-2014 i5 Mac Mini with Intel Iris graphics.
