Apple shill city

"I can't wait to buy blah blah blah..." ad nauseum.

Welcome to Apple's Shill City Boilerroom.

Worked for Obama, but then Microsoft has a much bigger market share than George Bush and the current "updates" are pure dated way overpriced crap.

Good luck, Amiga... uh, I mean, Apple. Amiga died without ever crapping on its highend base the way you do.

:apple:

Yea, because internet emotions are directly related to what the person does in real life.

When was the last time you ROFL'ed?

The internet makes exaggeration easy. Don't read too much into exclamation points.

I wasn't talking about his emotions. Trust me... I know you can't convey emotion the same online as in real life. I was talking about what he said.

This is a damned good point. Why do we all believe that the mini will have a miniDVI? What function could it possibly supply that a miniDP + an expansion of the adapter range not offer?

miniDVI-to-Video adapters exist, while miniDP-to-Video adapters do not.

I'm not sure that's a good enough reason, though. How many people need to connect their Minis to standard-definition televisions? Not many.

isnt hdmi a TV standard?

It's the same signal as DVI (single link) in a different connector, plus audio on some extra conductors.

Personally, I will be surprised if the mini has both dedicated GPU AND FireWire.

Nvidia 9400M is a lot better than Intel GMA950, but it's still integrated. I wouldn't think it qualifies as "dedicated."

As long as DisplayPort (and mini-DisplayPort) is backward compatible to HDMI it won't be a huge problem. I just wonder whether it'll be possible to get the digital audio from mini-DP to HDMI with a simple converter cable.

DisplayPort is not backward compatible with HDMI/DVI. The signals are completely different.

Apple's miniDP-to-DVI adapter is simple, but only because the mac changes its tune and sends DVI signals (not DisplayPort signals) through the port when the adapter is inserted.

Nobody supports audio over DisplayPort yet. It may (or may not) come some day, but if it does don't expect to be able to convert it to HDMI-compatible audio with a simple adapter. Perhaps complex (expensive) adapters will be made.
