Yes, that can be a problem on the Mac:

DDR3L (1.35v) and DDR3 (1.5V) are compatible with each other, but many prebuilt systems don't detect voltage specified by the SPD profile. Pumping 1.35v to 1.5v rated stick means the memory might not be stable though.

It works at 1.35 V, 1.45 V and 1.5 V and the Mac Mini late 2012 is in the list of compatible Mac.
Can it worth a try?

I also use 1.35V RAM, no problem. The modules that come with the Mac from the factory are also 1.35V (PC3L means 1.35V).

From your picture, the locking mechanism looks a bit bent compared to my picture from a similar angle. I suspect there is a crack in the mark.

Also my other machine (identical Mac Mini model) runs 2x8GB Elpida memory (I have bought it with already this amount of memory).

It may have reliability problem by not creating enough pressure to the ram module to get a good contact. Your original modules might work because the board is thicker or have a slightly different shape that happens to work with that cracked "arm".

I would try installing only one Corsair module into the inner slot which I think all the mechanism is still intact and see if it works. This is to find out what is the cause here, RAM or the cracked arm.


Yes, but the images they use are very generic which makes me suspicious. I clicked the store's link and it led to Kingston's store. But I'm still not convinced.

So then I started from US Amazon site (https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/). When I clicked the store link, it led to Aopen store instead of Kingston's.

Now, I won't trust this store.

I would start from kingston.com, find the module and click "buy" to see the available places to buy from in your country. Kingston USA doesn't even have an official shop in Amazon. The only two places listed in their US site are CDW and Insight.

But I still think it's that cracked arm that is the problem. From your pictures in the first post, it looks like the arm was still intact when you were having the 1333MHz problem. At that time the problem was likely the RAM modules. But now it is probably the cracked arm.

I would buy 1.35V ones (less heat).

If the problem is the cracked arm and Elpida RAM modules work with it. The solution may be swapping the RAM modules between your two Macs.

Where is the "crack" in the arm? It just looks like he is not seating the ram all the way preventing the arm from locking correctly on the ram chip.

OP: buy the ram from OWC. If you have been on this forum as long as I have, the one thing it teaches you is not to scrimp on ram that may not work on a Mac.
