Sorry to top an old thread, but I'm trying to understand where I should price my late 2012 Mac Mini and the folks in this thread seem to know a lot about them! It's a 2.6 GHz Core i7. If I'm not mistaken, all of i7s in 2012 were quad. It's got 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage. It has a couple of nicks along the edge of the metal, but is in otherwise excellent shape for a 5 year old machine. Runs like butter, I booted it up earlier to grab the specs. I no longer have any use for it; we were planning to use it as a desktop but both my wife and I prefer our laptops. Thanks!

From what I've researched on eBay, these models look to go anywhere from $1100-1300. I think. Haha. These little machines are kind of confusing. Apparently there's also more demand for the late 2012 models because they're the most powerful models Apple has built to date.

The real selling points are quad core processors and user upgradeable RAM and storage ... (not available in the 2014 model).

Ahh, got it. Thanks for that clarification. Any idea what a fair asking price would be for one of these? The specs of mine are above. My wife dinged the edge with her MBP so I have to account for that, but otherwise it's in excellent shape.

I no longer have a use for this Mac Mini and would prefer a laptop. That price range they are going for on Ebay is a lot more than what I paid for on this Mini. 🙂 I thought about getting an external GPU but my gaming PC fills the need for needing a dedicated graphics card.

I might price it around $1000. It's in excellent condition.

Those prices sound a little higher than I would expect for eBay where you don't have any warranty and returns can be difficult. I got a 2012 2.6ghz i7 quad core with 16gb RAM and the original internal Apple 256gb SSD from MacSales a little over a year ago. Their prices are basically the same now. Here are all their 2012 quad configurations. As you can see, a SSD makes them more desirable and the 2.6ghz models are not as common and more expensive.

But consider that MacSales (aka Other World Computing) is a well-respected company that offers a 90 day warranty and 15 days to return for a full refund on their used Macs, which is why I purchased there instead of eBay. If I had to take a the risk of buying on eBay, I wouldn't have paid nearly that much.

The one I got from MacSales looked just like a new computer, very clean with all the original packing and contents, such as the HDMI adapter and even the apple stickers. 🙂

Not quite: You actually can upgrade the storage in the 2014 models.
