here is a link I found, note: these are numbers from the 2009 model, but you get the idea, also, considering the regular mac mini is 5400rpm and the server is dual 7200s with a 300 dolllar difference, and other upgraded specs it was a no brainer for me.

Impressive. Could someone explain if the RAID 0 requires OS X server, or is OS X client also fine? Seems an interesting option to me to get the mini server and run OS X client, if it means I'll also get these disk speed benefits.

No, OS X Server is not required. It is simply software RAID which is handled with Disk Utility.

Did you use a 10.6.3 DVD from the new Mac Mini? I can't see how you will get the drivers for everything (SD, network) unless you use a DVD specific to the new Mini ( or somehow use the SLS drivers). I assume when a newer retail SL disk comes out that will work.

Sorry to bother you, but what exactly did you use? I am upgrading from a 2009 Mini and I would like to migrate stuff! I also don't need a server....

In my testing, I restored a vanilla 10.6.3 (10D573) image and it does not include everything, but it will boot. I did not have network connectivity however and it thought the NIC was an Airport.

The Minis are shipping with 10.6.3 build 10D2235, so a custom build. I am working on a 10.6.4 image which I will drop on the new Mini and see what happens.

In theory, if you have 10.6.4 downloaded and boot the Mini to the vanilla 10.6.3 build and update, it should work out fine.

Moving drivers from SLS would be a messy affair and it wouldn't be guaranteed to work, you would have to make sure to rebuild the kextcache. You can't simply drag and drop.

I made a Clon with CCC from my new MBP 13" and it worked. Only thing not working is sd-card slot.
