Mac Mini - Imac - Slightly off topic but relevant
I have an original imac 24ins and an intel mac mini (latest revision), I have been a mac addict since the original G4. Despite the limitations I run both mine off external drives and they both perform extremely well.
I am now retired and have to watch the pennies, but would dearly like an upgrade to my aging imac and have a machine that that is more mid range between the existing iMac and the Mac Pro. The Efix solution looks interesting if it really works as well as it is claimed to, and there are other rumours in other forums that Apple is about to announce a totally unsupported OEM version of OSX for US$299 that could be loaded on all manner of existing platforms without any support from Apple and would also release Apple from expensive lawsuits like the current Phystar lawsuit.
I would applaud Apple if they were to take such a step, particularly if they are unwilling to cater for the midrange desktop market.
I hope the Mini is upgraded - I hope Apple will revise their EULA to allow freechoice users an option if they are unwilling to offer middle of the road desktop solutions.
Regards and thanks to all for the intersting posts/Tony Singapore.
I think all three. Apple doesn't want to sell you a $600 computer. They want to sell you a $1200 (or more) computer. I'm very surprised they still offer the $999 MacBook but I expect they're just trying to get rid of leftover parts.
The mini hasn't been killed because it sells so well and it hasn't been upgraded because it would hurt iMac and MacBook sales, unless the price was raised. Personally, I'd rather see a much improved mini for $200 more, than the pitiful one that's available now. Most people would scream at a higher price though.
