Updated to 10.14.5 this morning. Since doing so my laptop has been hard freezing and restarting. This has happened twice so far. Also connectivity with bluetooth and my external monitor keeps dropping.

MacBook Pro 15 (2018) with 2.2ghz I7 and 32GB Ram

I'm experiencing same issue after updating my iMac 27" 5K 2019 from 10.14.4 using combo update. Here is a screenshots I've got during boot in Verbose mode

notice "pci pause: SDXC" and "kextd stall[0], (60s): `AppleACPICPU`, `GFX0`," and so on errors

IMG_4070.JPG

.. sometimes a screen like this appear and then iMac reboots just to freeze again
IMG_4071.JPG

Any help is appreciated!

I've got another issue. Update was successful, but first reboot caused problems. Apple logo was displayed for hours. Friend of mine suggested to run Verbose Mode which showed "failed to unwrap meta crypto state". Thanks to him and search the solution was found. Boot into recovery with Cmd+R, launch Terminal, execute code (replace X with your drive number), reboot.

Code:
diskutil apfs list
diskutil apfs unlockVolume diskXs1
diskutil apfs updatePreboot diskXs1 -od /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default
Maybe it will be helpful for someone.

I was having similar issues, I deleted com.apple.quicklook.helper in the ~Library/Containers folder, rebooted and everything seems to be working now

Hi guys, I'm not too tech savvy so apologies in advanced if someone had already asked this question and has been answered. But my iMac is always freezing at very random times. This never happened before until I've been using a second monitor connected to my iMac. It completely freezes and i have to force restart. I've already reinstalled the macos Mojave and problem is still occurring. Only thing I have connected to my iMac is my second monitor. Any solutions to this problem?

Im on late 2015 iMac (retina 4K, running version 10.14.5 macOS Mojave)

I don't have a second monitor attached, but am also experiencing several freezes lately. Seems to have happened after the 10.14.5 update. Only way to resolve is force shutdown and restart.

Not so much my new 2019 iMac is freezing, but certain apps won't respond after being open and then quit. With both Quicktime Player v.10.5 and Preview v10.1 if I open the program after looking at some files, then close it, it won't reopen. Instead I get a screen saying "Preview app is closed", and it won't reopen. Same message for Quicktime Player. The only solution is to restart. Not happening every time, but already 3 times today.

I had also been experiencing freezing on my 2015 iMac; seeming since installing the 10.14.5 update. I have a developer account, so I tried installing the 10.14.6 beta 1. It didn't take long for a freeze to happen again in Safari. Updated to 10.14.6 beta 2 and had another freeze. I then began wondering if it was somehow related to my Bluetooth mouse or keyboard (both 3rd party). I searched and found the procedure for reseting the Bluetooth Hardware Module (https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/reset-mac-bluetooth-module/). I did not unpair my keyboard or mouse beforehand, and both reconnected after the reset. So far, no more freezes, but it has only been two days. May be worth a try.

Using a 4k Dell P2415Q monitor via DisplayPort 2, seems to freeze every so often when just working on tasks on my external monitor. Never used to free before 10.14.5 (18F132) update.

I use SwitchResX as well to use a 4k HiDPI 1080p resolution at 30Hz, because I was having black screen flicking issues at 60Hz when using InDesign after every object move. I contacted Apple & Adobe back then but no one managed to help me. So I figured chaning the refresh rate to 30Hz worked because that uses less video memory vs 60Hz, this was that bug https://indesign.uservoice.com/foru...reenflickering-screen-turns-black-when-moving not sure if that's causing my Mac to freeze with the latest 10.14.5 Mojave update. I made the change a few months ago too, right about when that update released.

I've got a 13" Macbook Pro Early 2015, also noticed my Mac has started occasionally freezing over the last few months since Mojave 10.14.5 update (latest as of 7 Jul 2019), like 5 times now. https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/bhmke9/freeze_after_freeze_after_freeze_on_new_mojave/ My last one I was coding in Brackets and didn't get to save my file (I was hoping it had auto-recovery) angry af. Thank god it was just a small edit I lost, but holy cow, how bad has Apple's software QA gotten over the years?

I remember when iOS 11 came out and destroyed my iPhone 6s. (My battery started depleting twice as fast and was SUPER slow at doing anything). I've been researching Windows laptops, the Surface Book 2 seems plagued with BSODs and driver power issues/glitches while Dell just released their XPS 2019 with OLED, 32GB RAM, 1060 GTX 4GB RAM. Trumps my Mac.
You can get Linux terminal in Windows now baked in. https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/

Sick of sticking to this dual core in 2019 just because I wanted to stick to the old mac keyboard with ports.

I usually leave my Mac session on for days (with sleep/resume), but it NEVER used to freeze before this update and now it seems to be a regular thing. fk off Apple. Also a early 2015 model: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250387265?page=3 | https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-os-10-14-5-update-causing-freezing.2181439/ | https://www.google.com/search?q=Mac...+a+lot&oq=Mac+10.14.5+(18F132)+freezing+a+lot I tried checking system logs, but I don't know what I'm looking for and doubt anything is reported for the freezes.

I'll contact Apple support and see what they say. Finder is also garbage with slow lookup times and sometimes images don't show up or show up at the bottom of the screen in the 'No date' section. Incredibly annoying when I take screenshots or download new files. All in Mojave, I contacted Apple support about this and they were basically helpless and said to test it under a new account.

For what it's worth, I was a beta tester of macOS Mojave but I'm not on the Beta program any more and surrounded by freezing bugs. I still have the beta software reporting tool lol, I still use to to report bugs.

Spoke to Apple Support online, they suggested SCM https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201295 and NVRAM reset https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204063 (as usual) as well as having at least 15% or 30GB free disk space.
https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT206996 | https://www.cleverfiles.com/howto/best-disk-space-analyzer-mac.html

I have a 500GB usable (512GB) drive, so that means having at least 75GB free, usually it has been 26GB free lately, dipping to 6GB during heavy Chrome swap memory usage. Could be the reason for the freezes but we'll have to wait and see. I found 246GB of old holiday photos that I tried exporting to my Synology NAS last year, but Finder always failed with transfers that large so now I'm transferring month by month only. Seems to be working at around 5MB/s over 5GHz Wi-Fi AC :D Also a point to note: file deletes on the origin only happen once the entire move for all files has completed, i.e. it's not an atomic transaction.

So I cleared like over 126GB of storage on my Mac, did a SMC (no indication it did anything) & NVRAM reset.

And my Mac did an unexpected shutdown while typing in Chrome's Omnibar (without external display connected and I was on battery mode, but at 86% - It was shortly after my SMC & NVRAM reset). Super weird. First time it has done that. It froze before at the screensaver. So it's definitely not my storage causing it. Sigh.

My Mac has frozen like 5 times now over the last 2 months ever since 10.14.5 18F132 Grrr, super annoying! I don't even feel like working on this Mac anymore. I might go back to my old one. Such a shame. I've had so many issues with Mojave, including Finder being delayed, no Cover Flow and files appearing right at the bottom of Finder's window under 'No Date' section.

All I wanted was dark mode. :(

My 2013 Macbook Pro on Yosemite 10.5.5 is flawless. Hardly ever froze unless I pushed it really hard. But maybe only like once or twice a year, if that.

10.14.6 is out but oddly I haven't had a freeze on 10.14.5 in 15 days of uptime... but it has randomly froze 9 times before that. I'm a bit hesitant to restart or even update on this lucky streak of no freezes...touch wood.

Updated to 10.14.6 and got a random system wide freeze/hang yesterday again for the 10th time. Didn't freeze up for like 2-3 weeks though which was a bit irregular. I performed a system restart just a day ago too. Incredibly frustrating. I don't feel at all assured using my Mac any more. Contacted Apple support twice too. They recommended to reinstall macOS but I don't think it's that/ Could be a third party issue or Apple bug.

Has anyone had success solving this freezing problem?

Like people above, my mac (early 2015 MPB) only started freezing after installing 10.14.5. Sometimes it will freeze multiple times a day. Sometimes there will be 3+ weeks with no freezes. I'm now on 10.15.6 and that update hasn't helped with thisissue.

I've tried cleaning out some old unused files in the prefs and launch area and whatnot, but nothing has helped yet.

The freezes happen even when I'm not near the (open) laptop, it's not freezing in reaction to user interaction.

I am on 10.14.6. Experienced occasional freeze, especially during wake up from sleep. The following resolved my issues:
- Disable system hibernation
- Remove /var/vm/sleepimage (disable csrutil first)
- Reset SMC (few times)
- Reset PRAM (few times)
- Enable back system hibernation

It looks there were glitches on the sleepimage file when the disk was converted to encrypted (filevault) mode. Therefore, the file needs to be recreated.
