Mac OS Monterey (12) no longer supposed after the 12.7.6 update?

I don't get the fixation with OCLP. If I have a Mac Pro (aka Xeon Workstation) I'm more interested in having a rock-solid stable system than surfing the wave of compatibility hacks from pseudonymous developers.
Is it really rock solid (running Catalina, etc.) if it’s vulnerable to security issues and the browsers no longer work?

My 2017 iMac won’t support Sonoma let alone Sequoia so my Monterey upgrade, if any, is to Ventura. As others have mentioned, its UI is not inspiring me to make the change (I hesitate to call it an upgrade, though I guess it is one). Do others see compelling reasons to go from Monterey to Ventura on a 2017 iMac that frankly is working well for my needs?

@nielshutch, I'm with you 100% on this! I love it when software comes offregular maintenance updates. Then things stop changing, breaking, etc.

I too have an old 4s which I use strictly as an iPod now. Solid as a rock!

Seems to me that  support on Cupertino dropped "care" for Monterey instead of support or releasing 12.7.7
after reporting some major silly but annoying and fixable problems (7) with their software programs lately.
i have not heard back from these smug people since reporting this on December 3, 2024.

Monterey is having screen brightness problems as to solve this one must lift the lid after restart.
just staring the MBA M1 will not adjust the brightness on the keyboard.
there is an issue with opening any recent file in "text_edit' as that program crashes every time.
Bluetooth wont send a signal to both Klipsch speakers unless the MBA 1 and mini are restarted.
also there is still a pause after an half an hour while playing a video or music for three to four seconds.
The screen saver takes over the MBA M1 as when i'm typing on "pages" i need to tap the trackpad.
the settings are set never to put the MBA to sleep or launch screen saver.
i gave up on using any airplay from both MBA and MINI M1 with
homepods mini and tv since the connectivity is unreliable.
syncing an iPhone needs three unplugs to launch the device as both phone and MBA are "trusted"

none of these problems occurred in the original launch ofMonterey 12..x to 12.6.9

i guess when you are bigger and worshipped more than that "god" in the sky,
they can get away with any and every thing!
why should they care?

Support for Monterey ended in September. I wouldn't expect to hear back from  about your issues with a OS they no longer support. I've been running 12.7.6 without any issues. It has been a very reliable OS for me. Perhaps updating your M1 to a supported OS will help.

MBP15 2015 15" Retina on MontereyOS (last version that installs natively) and It's fast, reliable and not one crash on any application that I use.
I use Orion as my main browser, and I can install on it Chrome and Firefox extensions. Perhaps Apple could deploy one last version for Monterey, for those who have Intel machines. There is no reason to retire these 'old' Macs so quick.

My 2017 iMac running Monterey can go one OS further: to Ventura. Have found no compelling reason yet to update but maybe dropping support could do it. Anyone see any other reason to go to Ventura? OSs after Ventura won’t run on the 2017 iMac.

Thanks for the reply,
i will lose features i need like "new window tab browsing" which sonoma and ventura does not perform.
the OS du Anni Sekowya is too much as perhaps the annual updates since Lion burnt me out.

seems to me that  sabotaged Monterey so we sheepishly upgrade and spend/waste more money to them
since they wont make a dime from Monterey users as much as 2025OS!

my solution was and is to leave  and use an Asus ZenBook computer with windows
since i don't icloud or nned any  programs or anything new from them anymore (since 1999).

BTW: i'm tying this on a MBA2010 now using snow leopard, as this is better for me!

I don't think they sabotaged Monterey, its rock solid for me and from what I read, many others. I also do not enjoy the yearly updates but thats Apple's known OS release schedule. Monterey also ran the same pattern of support as Apple's prior OS releases. If you are having several issues, maybe try wiping your drive and do a clean install of it. I really liked snow leopard, it was one of their best but I'm surprised you can even access the internet with it in 2025! :) Good luck, hope you work it out.

Thanks, that was a nice message you typed!
i wiped both M1s on December 15, 2024 and the snafus or problems still exist.

perhaps for my computing usages and programs
mostly listening to music albums via FLAC,
 cant fulfill that anymore.

opening a file in a new window

unless sonoma and ventura OS reverted to do that, i never could on both M1s

I'm not sure if I understand correctly your example, but if you uncheck "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows" in Finder settings, it defaults to "Open in New Window".
The shortcut ⌃⌘O (Control+Command+O) opens the folder in another window.
Even if you have checked "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows", holding ⌥ with right-click shows "Open in New Window".

On 12.7.6 (21H1320), YouTube aprears to be broken in Safari and Orion, both WebKit browsers, but works in Chrome and Firefox. With or without extensions.
Does anyone see the same?

Thank you all for the confirmations. It was my fault. Reading about the recently published AirPlay vulnerabilities, I decided to disable the processes. But I forgot that disabling AirPlayXPCHelper affects YouTube in Safari.

Personally except for my m1 laptop that is basically for work only, I have always used oclp and installed the latest on all my other intel Macs, and it does not affect their performance at all. Still enjoyable to use, and using machines that are still very capable to run it.

bye bye Monterey!
what a great OS until Nov 2024....
Monterey was 3rd favorite OS of all time!
such a shame  messed that up last year!

Answered my own question: TurboTax 2024 will not install on Monterey. Had to update to Ventura to get this to run.
