Are you referring to the OS? Because I think the iLife apps have been great. Garageband is fantastic. What type of things were you looking for?
My guess is that CaptainScarlet was referring to third-party applications (although Apple's apps might also be included). I haven't used the new iLife yet, pgwalsh, so I'm in no position to comment on it.

I agree i think that the fact of students like mme that go to college a lot and always have to access the network folder by waiting for it to ackknowledge going thru each folder time after time gets annoying one click feature is gonna help students not get baffled and annoyed like me. Will the updated drivers improve performance on mobile laptops like powerbook G4s for example

How is this different from the way network volumes are currently available in the Finder sidebar and Desktop?
Shares accessed by going to the Network autodetect thing don't show up on my desktop or in my sidebar even though I have the appropriate preference enabled (as in your picture). They do show up in both if I access them via Connect To Server... in the Finder's Go menu, which is probably what you did to get that share mounted.

Has anyone else had problems with email since the last update to 10.3? Windows colleagues no longer can open my Office documents, although they could before the last update. My workaround is to zip them first. Sometimes they say two documents come (Mac's invisible companion files and some kind of MIME conflict?), but in call cases they cannot open them any more.
Don't forget that Windows users need extensions on their files to be able to open them. I agree with a previous poster that mentioned the resource fork as a possible cause. As it turns out, zipping files also strips them of their resource forks, which explains why zipping files before sending them works like it does.

Additionally mounting via the browser doesn't seem to acknowledge keychain either :(

System updates are good, usually.

Besides this revision is required for the g5 powerbooks.

Thanks for the Info, encro. So exciting, yet so undownloadable, for us on slow-speed connections.
Ask a friend, and let you send the update on a CD-R... there are options :) And Mac Users like to have options... ;) :D

Currently volumes do NOT appear on the desktop if you browse to them via Rendezvous. That's a fix I'll welcome. Esepcially if you can connect AND disconnect reliably without messing with IP numbers.

And USB support for iPod is good: now it can work with my pre-Firewire Mac maybe! Not vital, but nice. (Only USB 1.1, but still ought to work.)

Yes Garageband is great!!! But that's just 1 program. How much music can you do!??!! Let me say...How much GOOD music can you do?!?!?!

If you look at what has been released since then, it's been blah.....

I'm working on an RPG for the Mac that should liven things up. I guess it's too bad for you that it's nowhere near being ready for release (I haven't written any code yet).

I'll take a guess that this will be in Software Update on Tuesday :)
If it's as close to being ready for release as the rumor mill says it is, then it most certainly will be there, waiting for you (and I) to download (or so we hope).

OS X files no longer use the old OS 9 resource forks. But when sending mail to Windows users make sure you use the File->Attach Menu option, select the files and make sure to check the "Send Attachments to Windows users" checkbox.

That happened to me in Jaguar. I sent two word documents to my office, and they came in as a MIME file that was the real file, and the original .doc file which was bad. I had to rename the MIME file to the original name and it worked on the Windows side. Not sure why it happened, I haven't tried it again yet.

That's not true. OS X still respects type/creator codes, which are stored in the resource fork. Some apps put these in automatically (Word) but many rely only on extensions.

Image previews are also stored in resource forks. Resource forks are NOT dead and gone.

Are you remembering to check the "Send Windows Friendly Attachments" box when you are selecting the file to attach? If it worked in 10.3.x before 10.3.2 then I am sure you are, but just checking.

Not only that, but resource forks on the Mac won't die completely until we switch to a filesystem other than HFS (which is the only filesystem I know of that supports multiple forks), and thus have to abandon Classic.

Ironically, NTFS supports forks just as well...

USB Printing improvements?

I'm just happy to hear the update has USB printing improvements. Hopefully I'll be able to use my HP LaserJet 1200 now. It's been dead ever since I upgraded to Panther.

OS X doesnt but a lot of old apps from 9 still do. Like MS Word etc etc.

That's probably it. Thanks.

That's probably them seeing the data fork and resource fork as separate files. Did you try checking "send Windows-friendly attachments" under Attachments in the Edit menu of Mail.app?

This setting probably referred back to default (off) when the last update was applied.

Thanks again.

aha i think the change will allow you to put an alias of your network drive in your sidebar. right now, the volumes only appear after you log on. you can't simply drag them to the sidebar to save them for one-click access.

i have all our servers in the dock for easy one click access using jaquar. you cant do that in panther with the window side pane?
