Woohoo! Same sort of thing worked for me. I removed PithHelmet (0.7.3) manually and it's now working.

Like you the error report told me where to look for it.

Also tried had removed Sogudi, but put it back and it's still fine.

Same here, I removed AcidSearch and Safari now works perfectly.

aww crap i use acidsearch. that's probably why it isn't working. i am now sad. :(

but that did it. maybe they'll have an update soon to fix this. it's very useful.

Everything seems good apart from the fact that cyberduck crashes on load. (trashed prefs etc) I don't know for sure, but I think it might be another java related issue. (and I've repaired permissions etc)

Things like Exposé seem to be a little bit faster; but that might just be a placebo effect.

Version number debate

WebHead said:
I don't mind starting this debate again. Mathematically, 10.3.10 is the equivalent of 10.3.1. But then the second decimal point is mathematically incorrect, so anything's possible ...
I know most of these posts are just joking, but quite a few sound serious. I mean if you were going to invoke decimal point rules here, then what about IP addresses? It seems these people want to look at the version number without the second dot since it makes a nice comfortable, safe, boring floating point number, so that the current version is really 10.39. I also suppose if Apple keeps releasing point updates to 10.3, then they should start numbering them 10.3.91, 10.3.92, ..., 10.3.99, 10.3.991, etc. Maybe they could just switch to BASIC line numbering strategy, and we would have 100380, 100390, 100391, 100392, ..., 100400. That would give us 9 more update numbers before 100400 (10.4) :)

:p The ultimate question of life, the MacOS and everything is: what will be the numbering scheme at the first "dot" level? Will we have an eternity of 10.9 releases before OS 11? Or will we thumb our noses at the decimal police and have 10.10 through 10.99 and even 10.100.10 before turning to XI?

I'm going to give this bit a thumbs-down. I suppose I should be grateful to Apple for upgrading my Safari to 1.3, but adding Yahoo, eBay, etc. to my Bookmarks bar without me asking for it? Just not classy. But no, it's not a big deal.

Safari has also seemed a bit sluggish at first, but that is just a meaningless early feeling, I'll give it some time.

Somehow I don't think this was intentional on their part.

Kinda seems like Apple is trying to shake out potential compatibility issues with Tiger before Tiger is released. These last after-the-announcement 10.x.x fixes appear to serve a nice transitional purpose. 10.3.9 will be very helpful both for people who don't upgrade to Tiger for a while (for compatibility with new apps), and for people who will be upgrading soon.

Trackpad

WOAHHHH!

I have a 15" 1.67 Powerbook, and these trackpads are definitely performing better, and its significantly noticable.

I saw it on the spec sheet while waiting for the download.

Now I just have to slow down the tracking. Its so ZIPPY.

The actual big fix list was extensive for this release. Software Update just gives a couple highlights. Graphics drivers did receive some attention.

I looked at the list on Apple's website and didn't see anything about graphics drivers. Where are you looking?

Safari 1.3 things I've noticed.

Open in Tabs on the Bookmark bar now opens all subfolders. Ditto from the bookmarks menu.

Download no longer lets you pick the location for a particular download. It's the default or nothing.

Right-Click on a bookmark bar item and it has an "Open in Collections" command. It's the same as Bookmarks, but I don't think it used to be called that.

The Bookmarks page now has a history browser.

CMD-1 - CMD-9 activate the first 9 bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. Time to reorder things.

Rendezvous not yet called Bonjour.

I've updated two Macs to 10.3.9 and both are working flawlessly. Two nice things I've noticed about Safari 1.3. First is that the download window now shows the dl rate and time remaining simultaneously and second is that the pop-up blocker is now fully functional again. :)

STICKIES UPDATE! YESSSS! I can barely contain myself. I hear this one is the stickies minor bug fix we've all been waiting for. No need for Tiger now!

Thanks for the sarcastic yet adorable comment. It bore an instantaneous hearty laugh. A nice ending to a long day.

On another note, Stickies in Tiger have one HUGE selling point... they are dashboard-esque. :p

Am I the only one who notices that the iMac G5's fans are running a little faster than normal with this update?

Thats because your iMac now runs faster and but needs to be cooled :D

Okay, now that I realized that was worthless for me, how do I get rid of the Debug menu?

I like the debug menu because you can choose "open page with" any of your other browsers. Also you can select a "user agent" that makes a website think your using some other (read: Internet Explorer, etc.) browser :) You can also import bookmarks from other browsers, lots of good stuff, even for newbies..

Please let us know!

Trackpad fix for my 15" PowerBook! Now lets hope it works.

:D

So far, one other person with a 15" PB 1.67 (post #136) has reported that the track pad problem has been alleviated.

Please let us know if it cures your problem as well!

Staying iTuned...

Yesterday, my roommate and I both recieved the iPod minis we won from the pepsi promo. Today, we get 10.3.9 . In 2 weeks, we get Tiger. Apple, just keep the gifts coming!

My dad was asking me last week "you seem pretty sold on those things". After I informed him that once the mac mini showed up on the refurb site, he would be switching from windows to mac. (i'm a good son, what can I say). Well Dad, -this- is why I'm a mac whore.

Whoa, this came out of nowhere, didn't it? Very happy to see Safari 1.3 (finally!). Installation went flawlessly for me. Here's to a great 2-week relationship until I get Tiger! :D

The new two finger scrolling seems to be working a lot better also.
It used to drag, and hesitate as you quickly scrolled down a page... like finding a certain post on these long forum pages.

Anybody else notice how very smooth it is?

The default International settings for NZ are still wrong. They were wrong in 10.2.1 (first OS X I've used), I've reported the problem about 3 times, and it's still not fixed :(

Limewire and 10.3.9

i cannot connect to the limewire 4.8.1 after i updated to os 10.3.9, anyone got the same problem??
